The second round of the professional arm for the 2024 seniors golf championship was held on Wednesday, 4th December at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante in Kampala.
This was the determinant round for the projected cut of golfers who will progress to the money bracket to partake on the Ug.Shs 20,000,000 total kitty.
Overnight leader Ronald Otile maintains his lead, an extension by three shots after 36 holes.
Otile, a three-time Uganda national former amateur champion (2014, 2015 and 2018) struck 2-under-70 during round two to better his 5-under-67 score on day one for a total of 137 gross.
He is closely closed down by Marvin Kibirige and Phillip Kasozi with 140 gross apiece in 36 holes.
Entebbe based professional Davis Kato slips to fourth with 142 whilst Grace Kasango and James Koto are joint fifth with 144 apiece.
“My best golf is yet to come. I believe I will improve in the final two rounds” Kasango who shot 1-over-73 on the day assured.
Irene Nakalembe, the only lady in the mix is currently 7th with 145, a shot better than David Kamulindwa.
Nakalembe returned the most outstanding score on the second day, 3-under-69.
Palm Valley based professional Abraham Ainamani is 9th with 147 gross.
Two golfers are tied for 10th; the duo of Herman Deco Mutebi and Tadeo Rodel Gaita (149 gross apiece).
Other successful pros:
The other nine professionals who made the treasured cut include; Vincent Byamukama, Opio Onito, Adolf Muhumuza, Gerald Kabuye, Becca Mwanja, Samuel Kato, Tom Jingo, Hussein Bagalana and Deo Akope.
A total of 36 professionals took part in this event from the opening round; implying 16 have missed out on the cash.
The professionals will swing off for the third round on Thursday, 5th December 2024.
This is the first time ever that the professionals are playing at the seniors’ golf championship, organized by the Uganda seniors golfing society.
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has bankrolled this tournament for the 9th time in a row with a sponsorship of Ug.Shs 20,000,000, an increment by Ug.Shs 5,000,000.
The main tournament will swing off on the 7th December and climax on Sunday, 8th December 2024 with lots of trophies and other prizes to the exceling personalities.
