2025 EALASCA Games conclude in Kampala, Kenya dominates

The 14^th edition East Africa Local Authorities Cultural Association (EALASCA) games successfully climaxed at the Hamz Stadium (Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds), Kampala on Friday, 28^th February 2025.

Kenya had a clean sweep of the trophies competed for with an overwhelming performance in these games that are annually competed for among the East African cities.

The triumphant Kenya won trophies in football, athletics, tug-of-war, darts, pool, scrabble, the folk song and the dance competitions.

Hosts Uganda excelled in Volleyball and Netball.

Rev, Dr Canon Duncans Mugumya, the commissioner of Physical Education and sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports was chief guest, representing the state minister for sports Hon. Peter Ogwang.

Rev, Canon Dr Mugumya saluted all the participating teams and players

“I thank all the players who participated in these games. This is human capital development. At the ministry of education and sports, we look at building the wholistic human being. Trophies aside, the tournament brought togetherness, love and smiles” Rev. Canon Dr Mugumya stated.

He lauded KCCA for being good hosts to the over 1000 players.

“It brings us special joy to host a big number of people. Special thanks to the Government, KCCA and private partner Dr Hajji. Hamis Kiggundu” he added.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Deputy Executive Director Moses Benon Kigenyi represented the Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki during the closing ceremony.

In his remarks, Kigenyi saluted and congragulated all the participating teams.

“You demonstrated tenacity and I congratulate all of you. Everybody won. The Tug of war competition was most appealing.” Kigenyi remarked.

The opening ceremonies at the same stadium was graced by the Minister of Kampala City and Metropolitan Affairs Hajjati Minsa Kabanda and the KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki.

Kenya (Kisumu city) hosted the previous games (in 2024) that bring together the cities of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan and Burundi.

EACoG is a Regional Sports initiative that emanates from the decision of the 20^th EAC Council of Ministers, which directed the Secretariat to organize and hold Sports Tournaments on regular basis with partnership of private sector, civil society, voluntary organizations/ institutions/individuals and Development Partners.
