The first CAF A Coaching Diploma Course under the new CAF coaching convention successfully ended on Saturday, 21st December 2024 at FUFA Technical center, Njeru.
This followed grueling sessions of 240 hours of learning that entailed the theory of coaching, practical sessions, match analysis, leadership and management, sports science and nutrition, first aid and injuries, media relations, among others.
A total of twenty-four 24 coaches, consisting of tacticians from various divisions and countries, saw out block seven (7) of the training– which was the final assessment of all the participants, thus completing the six month-long course that began in May 2024 with pre-entry assessment of candidates to select the final 25 from 49 applicants.
CAF Instructor Francis Kimanzi supervised the last phase of the course.
FUFA Deputy CEO- Services Humphrey Mandu was the chief guest as all the coaches received certificates of completion.
Among the coaches who completed the course includes the two former Uganda Cup winner with Victors and Sports Club Villa Fred Muhumuza, now at Vipers.
Muhumuza, also a graduate from the famous Makerere University envisages the diploma as a big stepping stone in his coaching career.
“I am excited for this milestone as a coach to have acquired the CAF “A” Diploma.” The former Nkurumah Hall star midfielder attested.
“This is the step in the right direction for coaching in Uganda, the CECAFA region and the entire African continent. I am a servant of the beautiful game ready to share knowledge and learn new ideas as well. I thank everyone who has been part of my journey” Muhumuza added.
Alex Gitta Mulibanga, formerly at Express and Wakiso Giants also acquired the diploma.
Others are Simon Peter Mugerwa (Police), Badru Kaddu (Express), Brian Ssenyondo (current head coach of the Uganda U-17 national team), Abbey Bogere Kikomeko (BUL), John Luyinda (Vipers), Paul Kiwanuka (UPDF), Jimmy Kintu Mwera (UCU and St Noa), Richard Kasule (URA), Godfrey “Christian” Magoba (UCU), Arthur Kyesimira (Edgars), Ayub Khalifan (Kawempe Muslim Ladies) among others.
The non-Ugandans who were part of the class included Kenya’s Michael Nam Ouma, Medic Momcilo (Burundi), Petros Koukouras (Greece) and Umar Abdallah (South Sudan).
