Patrick Mahomes teases deadly new weapon amid Travis Kelce struggles

Andy Reid has ramped up the mind games as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to take on the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chiefs head coach is known for keeping opponents guessing.

Mahomes shows off his skills as a receiver

Kansas City‘s high-powered offense has not fired on all cylinders this season.

But Reid may have found a novel way to add some juice before taking on the Chargers.

A video shot from the stands showed the Chiefs going through drills at SoFi stadium.

Patrick Mahomes lined up out wide and caught a deep pass – albeit with a slight juggle.

“I hope Andy doesn’t have that one in the playbook,” joked one fan.

Should Reid be planning his own version of the infamous Philly Special, he probably would have kept it up his sleeves until the game.

But the respected coach may be attempting a double bluff.

The Chiefs have been forced to cope with the loss of running back Isiah Pacheco and Travis Kelce‘s worrying slump in form.

Their wide receivers wore T-shirts hyping up their star tight end before kick-off.

Kelce, who has just 69 yards this season, does not appear too concerned about a lack of work.

NFL analyst Jason Bell thinks the fact the Chiefs keep racking up wins while playing nowhere near their best is worrying for their NFL rivals.

“This is when you look at great teams, players, coaches and organizations that know how to win,” Bell exclusively told talkSPORT.

“They get these kinds of games, it doesn’t look great, the best player says he’s not playing at his highest levels, that is Patrick Mahomes, but they’re stacking wins.

“And it’s because that defense is playing well. They are up to the challenge every single week.

“They carried this team last year when they won the Super Bowl.

“So now, if they continue to do that and the offense continues to evolve when you have Patrick Mahomes you know you’re going to be in the championship round and playing well because if there’s one thing this team knows how to do, it knows how to meet a challenge, especially later in the season.”

Rashee Rice has been Mahomes’ most potent weapon this season – and Bell is a big fan.

“He is the number one receiver in that offense, so he’s getting a lot of targets,” said the former cornerback.

“The thing about Travis Kelce is nobody should panic. They need him good at the end of the season and in the playoffs. That’s the key.

“There’s no panic button. This team is 3-and-0 because their defense is playing well.

“They got the best quarterback in the NFL on offense. They just need to find their way.”
