Men’s UGT20 Final Summary

Wanderers 99 all out

Rounders 96 all out

Wanderers won by 3 runs

Wanderers and Rounders played out a low-scoring thriller at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in the final of the Men’s UGT20 League.

Wanderers won the toss and elected to bat first. Rwandan international Didier Ndikwibimana (27) was the top scorer of the team, and Abu Seguya (19) made some contribution to the low team total of 99 in 17.2 overs.

The slow bowlers of Rounders in David Mwesigwa (3/19), Narinder Singh (3/23) and Richard Sohera (2/6) combined to pick up eight wickets.

In the run chase, Rounders failed to build meaningful partnerships and kept losing wickets in succession which derailed their run chase.

Martin Akayezu (5/22) was the stand-out bowler for Wanderers and Arthur Magwa (3/19) provided the support. A contrast in approach with Rounders who picked their wickets with spin while for Wanderers it was the medium pacers that did the damage.

Wanderers was able to soak up the pressure and pick up the result that gave them their first title in 11 years.

It was a good season for Wanderers who finished second in the men’s 50-Over League and victory in the T20 League crowns a nearly perfect season for them.

Rounders missed out on qualification to the top flight but in the end had a great season despite falling short of the T20 title.
