Daniil Medvedev may have fallen to defeat against Carlos Alcaraz, but he’s already eyeing victory in their next meeting.

Alcaraz was the 7-5 6-3 winner of their China Open semi-final clash to extend his winning tally to eight consecutive matches.

With the world no.3 facing the world no.5, it comes as no surprise that the first set proved to be an evenly poised affair on the court.

However, Medvedev required a medical timeout on two occasions due to an issue with his left leg before Alcaraz won the match.

Upon meeting at the net at the end of play Medvedev was spotted speaking to his opponent, who laughed at what was being said.

The Russian’s hand was covering his mouth but revealed afterwards that he detailed his plan to win their next matchup.

“I told Carlos next match I’m going to paint my hair blond and put ‘Botic’ here [draws a line across his chest],” he said in his press conference via The Independent.

“Maybe this can help. As I say, today I played pretty well. I don’t see how I could beat him today, on a given day today.

“Next match I need to try something. Maybe throw him off a little bit. But it’s a joke, of course.”

Medvedev was referring to Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp, who claimed a shock win over Alcaraz in the US Open second round.

He won in straight sets but the Spaniard has since been in excellent form and Medvedev was the latest opponent to know.

Although he joked that he’d pretend to look like Van de Zandschulp in his next match against Alcaraz, it seems he already tried to distract him in Beijing on Tuesday.

He said he playfully told Alcaraz how he would beat him next timeAFP

During the second game of the second set, Medvedev sent a return into the net and made it look as if he was hit by the ball.

Alcaraz waved his hand as he appeared to apologise but was soon smiling once he realised that the man across the net was joking.

Unfortunately for Medvedev, his humorous play-acting did little to stop him from being beaten by the four-time Grand Slam champion for a fourth consecutive match.

Alcaraz will face either reigning China Open champion Jannik Sinner or wildcard Bu Yunchaokete in the final.

Victory will see him win the 16th ATP title of his career, with many more set to follow as the 21-year-old continues to be at the top of his game.
