Thursday racing tips
WARWICK
2.55: Roccovango (1pt)
3.30: Panhandle Slim (1pt)
SOUTHWELL
2.30: The Kniphand (1pt)
SALISBURY
3.50: Executive Decision 7/1 Each-way (1pt)
Roccovango
Guard Your Dreams is an eight-year-old gelding that has been seen 18 times over hurdles, making a bit of a later switch to fences.
Once 147-rated over hurdles has top experience in Graded contests but after his 2022 campaign was off for 660 days before making a reappearance in January.
Yet to make an impact this year in Graded meetings including behind Langer Dan in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham Festival and Lossiemouth in the Unibet Hurdle.
By Fame And Glory he could be a great chaser in the making on his debut over fences.
He gives 10lb to Roccovango, trained by Olly Murphy who has been lightly raced throughout his career but seen to great effect in his four races this calendar year.
Including on his chase debut at Worcester when coming back from 113 days off.
This uptick in form has been apparent since switching yards and Sean Bowen always has a chance on any horse at this time of year.
Panhandle Slim
Jockey Brian Hughes has won four in the last two weeks for a good 20% win-rate.
He has Panhandle Slim in this 2m5f contest, a five-year-old gelding who is surely just due to keep improving at this age.
Especially coming up against some older hurdlers who are yet to make a bigger impact at this level.
He placed behind Mr Bramley twice earlier this year but could be seen to improve returning from this small summer break.
The gelding has been right up there in each of his last four races and his sole win came over 2m4f, so the extra yardage can only be a positive now.
The Kniphand
Won back in March 2023 but has since been beaten by some tough three milers.
Made his chase debut in October but could only manage a distant second to Neon Moon.
Went to Doncaster two months later in another Class 3 novice handicap chase but again could only manage a distance finish, behind Twinjets.
Off since though and certainly has the makings of a good chaser, especially against these rivals who could be prone over this distance.
Executive Decision
Tipped this filly each-way in a five-runner contest at Newmarket last week in which she placed just a neck away from the win.
That’s great form going forward and is once again a nice each-way shot.
She proved she loves the ground more and placed in the top two for the first time in a year.
She ought to go on from this having only been upped 1lb for that narrow defeat whereas the likes of Solar Aclaim has been hit with a 6lb rise for his latest success.
