Arsenal vs Southampton predictions
Bukayo Saka did not seek to play down Arsenal’s chances of finally winning the Premier League title this season.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on us but I do think that this is the year [for us to win the league],” he said in midweek. “I think we’ve been close the last two years and we’re getting closer, but this hopefully will be the year.”
From the evidence of the 2024/25 season so far, Arsenal are certainly capable of going all the way.
The Gunners have won four and drawn two of their first six games this term, a return which puts them third in the table. Despite spending half of the match with 10 men, Arsenal drew 2-2 with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last month.
The problem is, only one team can win the title. Arsenal were fantastic for most of last season too, yet they still missed out to City. Liverpool are also going strong under Arne Slot at present.
The Gunners are not only one of the strongest sides in the Premier League; they are also among Europe’s best these days. Mikel Arteta’s men were fantastic in midweek, brushing aside Paris Saint-Germain in a 2-0 win in the Champions League.
Arsenal were dominant throughout Tuesday’s clash at the Emirates Stadium. Kai Havertz gave them the lead after 20 minutes, before Saka doubled the hosts’ advantage 10 minutes prior to the interval. They did not create an abundance of other chances, but Arsenal never lost control.
They now have the chance to make it four wins in a row in all competitions. Southampton head into this contest on the back of a damaging 3-1 defeat by Bournemouth on Monday night.
The Saints were 3-0 down before the interval, prompting manager Russell Martin to state he did not “recognise” his team in the opening 45 minutes.
Southampton are second-bottom in the standings and could desperately do with their first win of the campaign, but it is unlikely to come at the home of Arsenal this weekend.

Arsenal vs Southampton betting tips
Arsenal and Southampton will lock horns in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Arsenal -2.5 handicap
Arsenal have not had everything their own way in their last two home games in the Premier League.
In the first of those, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion after Declan Rice’s contentious red card. In the second, Arsenal needed two goals in second-half stoppage time to beat Leicester City 4-2.

We anticipate a more comfortable afternoon when Southampton come to town. For one, Arsenal would have opened up an advantage over Leicester much earlier were it not for an outstanding display from Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
On top of that, Southampton have been far too easy to play against this season. They are comfortable in possession but only occasionally threaten the opposition goal, while their defensive structure is relatively straightforward to break down.
This looks set to be a one-sided encounter at the Emirates.

Arsenal to win to nil
As well as giving up goals too easily, Southampton have struggled to cause opposing teams problems going forward.
Martin’s men have made the net ripple only three times so far, which is the lowest return in the division.
That does not bode well for their upcoming tussle with what is widely considered to be the strongest defence in the division, although Liverpool have conceded the fewest goals up to now.
Arsenal do not give much away no matter their game plan. They can defend in different ways, either by dominating possession and pushing high up the pitch, or by sitting deep and soaking up pressure.
It is hard to see how the Premier League’s most toothless team will be able to cause Arsenal many defensive issues.

Leandro Trossard to score any time
With Martin Odegaard still sidelined through injury, Arsenal will likely continue with a front four of Saka, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinell and Kai Havertz this weekend.
It is easy enough to make a case for any member of that quartet finding the net, but Trossard is perhaps the best pick from a betting perspective.
The Belgium international’s versatility allows him to play multiple different roles, but no matter where he is deployed Trossard has a knack for getting into dangerous positions.
He was on target against Leicester last weekend, doubling Arsenal’s lead to 2-0 on the stroke of half-time.
Trossard is Arsenal’s best finisher and he can demonstrate his quality in front of goal against a Southampton defence that is finding life difficult at the top table of English football.
