For most people, getting their favourite meal delivered to them whilst on board a luxury private jet is nothing more than a pie in the sky.

But David Beckham was once forced to deny that he had done exactly that after it was reported that he had spent no less than £1,000 on one dish in particular.

After an impressive football career which saw him win six Premier League titles, a Champions League and a host of individual accolades amongst other things, Beckham has gone on to enjoy a successful career in business and fashion.

He is certainly no stranger to luxury – but for all his high-end indulgences, the 49-year-old has also always been known to be partial to a good pie.

Indeed back in 2015, reports began circulating that the former England and Man United legend had forked out a small fortune to have his favourite dish of pie and mash brought to him in an unusual location.

Beckham had allegedly been on board a private flight from the UK to America where he had asked for the meal to be specially prepared for him.

The Sun reported that he had ordered it from Tony’s Pie and Mash Shop in Waltham Abbey, Essex.

And while their pie normally cost a very reasonable £4.45, the cost of bringing it to Becks on his luxury jet meant the price skyrocketed to a whopping £1,000.

The manager of catering company On Air Dining David Hulme had told The Sun: “A sports star who used to fly back and forth from London while based in the US wanted pie and mash with green liquor.

“It cost over £1,000. For us to get it, take it to the airport and get it through security cost a fortune.”

But the story was completely denied by Beckham’s camp.

One of his friends explained: “There were times David took a private flight from London and ordered pie and mash. I doubt it would have been this price. But that was a matter for the plane company.”

While one of his representatives categorically denied it and stated that the report was ‘complete rubbish’.

Whether the pie story was true or not, Beckham certainly does enjoy the lavish luxuries of his private jet.

He is believed to be the owner of a Bombardier Challenger 350 jet which is valued at around $24million.

And he has been known to use his jet to treat his family and friends to trips around the world.

He is not the only global footballing superstar to own a private jet either.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and Neymar Jr are among the others to have their own personal planes.

But while a private jet might seem like a very enviable possession, if this story has taught us anything, it is that when it comes to getting a good pie and mash, you are much better keeping your feet firmly planted on the ground.
