Wayne Rooney was sent to the stands after a furious touchline outburst during Plymouth’s dramatic victory over Blackburn.

The Argyle boss saw red after Rovers scored a late equaliser against his side, with the Man United legend unhappy about a decision in the build-up.

Rooney and his coaching team were left livid that the referee had decided not to award a free-kick their way in the moments before Blackburn’s 87th-minute leveler at Home Park.

Plymouth had held an early lead through Michael Obafemi and enjoyed a glut of chances throughout to put the game to bed.

However, Joe Rankin-Costello drew the game level for Blackburn with a back-post header, leading to the furious scenes in the dugout.

Losing his head, Rooney was given his marching orders and made his way down the touchline to the tunnel at Home Park.

Thankfully for him, Plymouth scored a last-gasp winner in his absence as star man Morgan Whittaker found the back of the net in the seventh minute of injury time to earn victory for the Pilgrims.

It means the Green Army go into the international break with a third win of the Rooney regime, with the England and Manchester United legend’s side bouncing back from their 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Tuesday.

It also means that they now sit four points clear of the relegation zone in mid-table.

Plymouth will be hoping to kick on after the international break with their newest signing arriving with high hopes.

Rooney completed the signing of Andre Gray, in the hope of adding more goals to his side.

Gray was a free agent following an unsettling time with his last club, Saudi Pro League side Al-Riyadh.

The Jamaica international has made over 100 Premier League appearances, scoring 23 goals and assisting seven during his time there.

While he was unavailable for the clash with Blackburn, he could make his debut against Cardiff following the international break.

Whether Rooney will be on the touchline to see it, however, seems unlikely with a touchline ban a possibility after his sending off.
