Conor McGregor put his money where his mouth is on Saturday night by lumping an eye-watering bet on the UFC 307 main event.
The Irishman placed $1million on either Alex Pereira or Khalil Rountree Jr scoring a knockout in the Salt Lake City headliner.
Pereira knocked out Rountree Jr – much to the delight of McGregorGETTY
And Pereira closed the show in the fourth round with a huge right uppercut to make McGregor $200,000 richer.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: “Quick, what’s the odds on a KO either way here?
“I will put a million US down on it,@DuelbitsThere is a KO happening here.
“I will not be surprised if Rountree secures an insane KO win here.
“I will also not be surprised if Periera jumping knees him unconscious.
“Whoever starts throwing little flicky kicks in this, the first person to throw a little flick kick in this is losing. I guarantee it…
“I AM PUTTING A MILLION U.S. DOWN ON A KO TAKING PLACE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER HERE IN THIS MAIN EVENT, @DuelbitsOdds are 1/5. A million wins back $200k. Let’s see…”
He then followed up by confirming he had won the bet.
“$200k baby! THE RICH GET RICHER! Called it play by play! What a fighter, Poatan! Incredible!” added McGregor.
But ‘Notorious’s’ jubilance quickly turned to anger when Pereira announced that he wouldn’t be moving up to heavyweight next.
‘Poatan’ has teased the possibility of challenging Jon Jones for 265lbs gold but insisted he was happy at light heavyweight in the immediate aftermath.
McGregor uploaded a video of him watching Pereira’s post-fight interview from home and at first, he was full of praise for the two-weight UFC champion.
“They’re lean-backs, yeah? No feet, the feet aren’t going back there,” he said.
“He’s not even stepping back, it’s a lean-back. You’re still right in front of him, boom!
“Rountree Jr. is as tough… A lot of weapons. He couldn’t let them go over there…
“The inside low kicks, the outside low kicks. That was a tremendous bout, yeah! Incredible.”
McGregor then urged Pereira to move up in weight and expressed his disgust when the Brazilian superstar suggested against it.
“Heavyweight… You call for heavyweight, now!” he yelled.
“Ah, leave it if he says drop down to middleweight. Don’t lie to yourself [about going down to middleweight]. It was a heavy-weight cut.”
McGregor quickly deleted the video but several accounts screenrecorded it and re-uploaded it online.
