Oscar De La Hoya has fears that Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson could be dangerous if it goes past three rounds.

Paul and Tyson will meet in an astonishing professional bout on November 15 with a 31-year age gap between the pair given the heavyweight legend is now 58-years-old.

The fight has faced widespread criticism given the potential health concerns for Tyson, who hasn’t fought competitively since losing to Kevin McBride and retiring in 2005.

Boxing legend De La Hoya has given his verdict on the fight, and is scared for Tyson if he is unable to knock Paul out early on.

He said on podcast Club Shay Shay: “Come on. I saw him the other day.

“I love Tyson, he’s got a puncher’s chance in the first three rounds. I’m a little scared of Tyson getting hurt after the third round.

“Jake Paul’s a big boy, he’s 26 years old [sic, 27], Tyson’s 61 [sic, 58].

“I’m happy for him that he’s making money, that he still loves it, he’s getting in there and he’s in shape, but just be careful.”

De La Hoya himself considered a comeback against Vitor Belfort but decided against it to protect his health after being hospitalised with coronavirus in 2021.

Many believe Tyson himself should pull out of the clash for good, having already delayed the bout after suffering an ulcer flare up before their originally planned July meeting.

But he is determined to return to the ring, and has been posting clips of training footage in a bid to prove his fitness.

‘Iron Mike’ has shown he still possesses an element of his punch power, which he displayed in a 2020 exhibition against Roy Jones Jr.

But it is a huge risk to take on Paul, who is in his physical prime, given it could leave a damaging stain on his legacy.

Tyson has backed himself to win by KO throughout the build-up, despite his rival’s attempts to match his power by bulking up in weight.

And he believes the risk is worth taking given the lucrative purse he is being rewarded with.

“I could be waiting on a check every day from cannabis,’’ Tyson said. That’s bulls*** for me. I’m a man.

“I want to go out there and I want to expose myself to risk. Sometimes I want to see who I really am.

“I want to see what I’m really made out of. I want to perform in front of the world.

“To me, that’s all I ever knew how to do since I was 14. This fight is not going to change my life financially enough.

“This is just what I want to do.’’
