Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat has revealed the reasons behind the decision to host Cameroon behind closed doors at Namboole on Monday.
Kenya host their international matches away from home at the moment as they have no Caf and Fifa approved stadia for matches of the magnitude of Afcon qualifiers.
They did host Zimbabwe at Namboole last month with fans allowed to catch the game but that will be different when they take on five-time African champions on Monday in a group J encounter.
“You know what happened when Zimbabwe played there against Cameroon, there were a lot of security concerns,” he started as he briefed the media in Nairobi.
“You saw what happened with goalkeeper Andre Onana so we had no positive feedback from the other side in regards to what can happen,” he added.
“Second, you saw the support they (Cameroon) got in Uganda so it doesn’t make sense to help them.”
Although most Ugandans, especially Manchester United fans supported the Indomitable Lions against Zimbabwe, it was expected to get even worse for the Harambee Stars come Monday October 15 given the rivalry between Kenya and Uganda.
In October 2011, Kenya, despite minimal chances of qualifying for finals in 2012 held Uganda to a goalless draw denying the Cranes chance to qualify at the expense of Angola.
