Birmingham and Wrexham have been forced into a break this weekend with only two games on the League One schedule.

With the second international break of the season now underway, it is the perfect time to go and see some lower-league football with the Premier League pausing.

But you will have to delve deeper than the third tier, as almost all of the planned fixtures have been postponed on Saturday afternoon.

There are only two matches set to go ahead and here’s why…

Why are there only two League One games this weekend?

The international break has forced 10 League One games to be postponed on Saturday.

Clubs in England are allowed to call off fixtures if three or more of their players are called up to represent their countries.

The only catch with that is that those players have had to have started a first-team fixture this season to count towards a postponement.

And with the quality of squads improving throughout the English football pyramid, this is becoming a common occurrence for many teams.

Premier League games are always off while Championship matches are too, but in League One and League Two, there is usually a mix.

That was the case during the September international break and it’s the same this week.

10 of the scheduled 12 games have been called off, including Wrexham and Birmingham’s games against Lincoln and Cambridge respectively.

Birmingham have over three players on international duty while it is Lincoln who have had more call-ups than Wrexham, forcing that game to be postponed too.
