13 Ugandans make cut for Ug Shs 150M cash kitty | 2024 Johnnie Walker Uganda Professional Golf Open

Day two of the 19th Johnnie Walker Uganda Professional Golf Open championship in Entebbe produced thrilling golf action from the large field in play.

This was the decisive day where the cut for the outstanding performers in 36 holes (two rounds) was determined.

Out of the over forty home based professionals, 11 made it and 2 others are amateur players.

The successful ones who will play round three and four were Abraham Ainamani, Ronald Rugumayo, Phillip Kasozi, Deo Akope, Adolf Muhumuza, Marvin Kibirige, Emmanuel Opio Onito, Rodell Gaita, David Kamulindwa, Bulhan Matovu and Vincent Byamukama.

Adel Balala (Kenya), the newly crowned Uganda Amateur Open champion Joseph Reagan Akena and Titus Okwong are the amateurs who made the cut.

Rwanda’s Erneste Ndayisenga scored 3-under-68 to register the best score on day two.

Ndayisenga bettered his day one mark of 4-over 75.

Overnight leader from the opening day, Dayne Moore from Zambia maintained his grip at the summit of the overall leaderboard.

Having played 7-under 64 on the opening round, Moore scored 2-over 73 during round two but remained 5 shots ahead of the second placed Jastas Madoya.

Madoya who had played 66 on day one faltered with 5-over 76 on Thursday.

Pressure Groups:

The main pressure group will have Moore, Madoya as well as Rwanda’s duo of Celestin Nsanzuwera and Erneste Ndayisenga on Friday.

Zimbabwe’s Promise Sombreiro, Abraham Ainamani, Ronald Rugumayo (Uganda) and Mike Kisia will be part of the second pressure group.

Meanwhile, Kenya Golf Park based professional Erick Ooko Obura registered an odd hole-in-one shot during the second day of action.

Ooko’s moment to shine came on the par-3 hole 2 with a 9-iron and a Titleist Pro V1x ball.

This was his fifth ace in his golfing career and the first in a major championship.

“I must say It was my lucky day. The pin was in a difficult position but I managed to sink it in. I am humbled” Ooko who played 1-over 72 on the day stated.

Friday, 6th September 2024 will be the third day of action as the professionals make it 54 holes.

The total kitty is Ug.Shs 150,000,000 (at least 40,366 USD).
