Bronny James is set to make a huge amount of money in the NBA.

The son of icon LeBron has already made history by playing with his father in pre-season, becoming the first father-son duo to take to the court together.

Bronny signed a four-year contract with the Lakers after being draftedGetty

James is now embarking on his first season in the league, with another three years on his Los Angeles Lakers contract, should he impress.

He signed his deal in July after being drafted as the 55th pick in the NBA Draft and here, talkSPORT.com takes a look at the details…

Bronny James’ contract

James signed a four-year rookie deal worth $7.9million with the Lakers, according to ESPN.

In his first year, he will earn a guaranteed $1.1million before that increases to $1.9million for his second year in LA.

His salary will take another jump in the following season up to $2.2million and there is a team option for the 2027/28 campaign which could see his earnings rise to $2.4million.

A team option in James’ fourth year of his contract means the Lakers can decide whether they want to keep him or not.

Should they opt to retain him, they will pay him another $2.4million but if they don’t, James’ contract with the team will end after the third year.

This is an incredible amount of money for a 55th pick in the NBA Draft but it’s not a record for a player selected in the second-round.

New York Knicks guard Tyler Kolek signed a deal worth a guaranteed $6.6million after being traded on Draft night by the Portland Trailblazers.

This beats James who is guaranteed around $5.5million due to his team option.

Bronny James’ contract details

Total: $7,900,000

2024/25 – $1,157,143
2025/26 – $1,955,377
2026/27 – $2,296,271
2027/28 – $2,486,995 (Team Option)

Bronny’s link-up with LeBron likely played a huge part in his high salary offer

However, his contract is still incredible for a pick so far into the second round.

In 2022, Gui Santos was picked by the Golden State Warriors in the same spot as James and he is said to have signed a contract with only $75,000 guaranteed.

Last year, Isaiah Wong was the 55th pick and joined the Indiana Pacers on a one-year deal reportedly worth $1.8million.

Rookies that are picked in the second round usually sign contracts worth very little guaranteed money and most sign two-way deals.

That means they would split their playtime between the NBA and the G-League.

However, James is not on a two-way contract and will be representing the Lakers, with his salary guaranteed until the team option in the fourth year.

James’ average stats in college did not stand out as special, as shown by his pick late in the second round.

But it’s his name, his father and his obvious high potential that have led to the Lakers offering a four-year contract.

And we will find out whether he can live up to his salary in the NBA this season as he plays alongside LeBron.
