Leeds v Sheffield United predictions
Leeds head into Friday night’s fixture looking to get back to winning ways having drawn each of their last two matches, leaving the pres-season title favourites currently sitting in fifth in the table.
After a slow start to the campaign with no wins in three, Daniel Farke’s side won four of their next five games before being held to draws away at Norwich and Sunderland in their last two outings, conceding a 97th minute equaliser in the latter through a calamitous error from goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
The Yorkshire side will be pleased to be playing back in front of their home fans after two difficult away fixtures, though face a daunting test against a Sheffield United side on fire at the moment, with only goal difference separating them from the top of the table.
Leeds have only won two of their five matches at home in all competitions this season, while the Blades make the short trip to West Yorkshire having picked up 16 points from their last six matches, shooting them into second place in the Championship table.
In fact, were it not for their two-point deduction for defaulting on payments to other clubs across the last couple of years, Chris Wilder’s side would be sitting pretty at the top of the second tier as they seek an instant promotion back to the Premier League.
The Blades remain the only Championship side still unbeaten in the league ahead of their trip to Elland Road on Friday night, which will act as their biggest test of the season so far.
The South Yorkshire side have kept six clean sheets in a row ahead of the weekend, conceding just three goals in their nine league games so far this season.
The last six meetings between the two sides have been split evenly at three wins apiece, and I think Leeds’ recent drawing streak could be extended to three games on Friday night, with a 2-2 draw looking plausible.
Leeds v Sheffield United betting tips
West Brom’s Tom Fellows is the only Championship player to have assisted more goals this season in all competitions than Leeds’ Wilfried Gnonto, who set up both goals in the Whites’ 2-2 draw with Sunderland before the international break.
Both teams will be desperate for victory on Friday night to put themselves in the best position for promotion to the Premier League, and top class opposition on either side could well cancel each other out.
Sheffield United are the form team in the Championship at the moment but running out under the lights in front of a packed out Elland Road with a raucous atmosphere could prove one step too far as they look to extend their winning run of five wins in their last six.
