Thomas Tuchel and Pep Guardiola are favourites to become England manager but Jurgen Klopp is Simon Jordan’s choice for the job.

Former Chelsea boss Tuchel has been sounded out as a potential successor to Gareth Southgate after rebuffing Manchester United’s advances this summer.

Meanwhile, Guardiola continues to be linked with English football’s top job with his contract at Manchester City set to expire at the end of the season.

While Guardiola, for many, would represent the overwhelming choice, Jordan would prefer to see ex-Liverpool boss Klopp handed the reins.

Klopp, who stepped down at the end of last season, is currently enjoying a sabbatical from football management and recently took up the role as Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull. He’ll formally start that job in January.

The German has hinted that his managerial days are now fully behind him but the same cannot be said of fellow countryman Tuchel who if handed the opportunity, would keep the Football Association on their toes, in Jordan’s opinion.

“Tuchel comes with challenges. I’d quite like the FA to be challenged because I don’t think they operate at the highest level, but that’s me being facetious,” said the former Crystal Palace owner.

“I’m comfortable with a top manager being given the England manager’s job whoever it is. If it were Guardiola, great. My preferred choice in all of it is Klopp.”

Expanding on his preference, Jordan explained: “I think Klopp may just be a better dynamic fit for England than perhaps Guardiola.

“But either one of them is an embarrassment of riches and a massive upgrade (on Southgate).

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe and former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter have both been touted for the role.

The Magpies are keen to keep hold of Howe and will be confident of doing so with the FA keen to avoid paying a huge settlement figure.

The yearning for Guardiola is not entirely universal with talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy the case in point.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham star said: “It’s Thomas Tuchel for me. Even if Eddie Howe is available…it’s Tuchel.

“That, appointing Tuchel, would be sensational because he ticks all of the boxes.

“He’s out of employment, he’s got an affinity with England, he’s a winner and he speaks English – honestly, that turns me on. It does.

“He would be a handful for the FA but do you want to win something or not?”

Tuchel boasts an impressive CV having led Chelsea to Champions League glory and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.

The 51-year-old led Paris Saint-Germain to a domestic quadruple in the 2019/20 season before narrowly slipping to a 1-0 defeat in the Champions League final against Bayern.

His last success was leading Bayern to the Bundesliga title in 2023 after mutually agreeing to part ways with the club.

talkSPORT understands Tuchel’s former club Bayern wouldn’t be entitled to any compensation if he was to become England manager.

The German is keen on making a return to live in London but is likely to cost more in wages than the £5million-a-year than Southgate was paid.
