Philadelphia Flyers at Edmonton Oilers preview

Rolling into Tuesday’s contest, the Oilers suffered a bitter defeat losing to their hated rivals, the Calgary Flames  4-1 on Sunday. With the loss, the Oilers have lost three straight to kickstart their 2024-25 season.

The Flyers failed to follow up on their opening night win with a setback against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Playing on back-to-back nights proved to be too much as they were handed a 6-3 loss.

Philadelphia Flyers at Edmonton Oilers prediction

The Oilers defense has gotten off to a sluggish start since the opening puck drop occurred. Since launching the new season, the Oilers have allowed four or more goals in each contest.

Pegged starting net minder Stuart Skinner is off to an horrendous statistical start. In two starts the 25-year-old currently possesses a 5.04 goals against average and a .805 save percentage.

Last year’s Conn Smythe Trophy winner in the Stanley Cup Final, Connor McDavid is off to a stuttering start only registering two assists in three outings and is -5 in the NHL’s +/- category.

Despite his squads losing effort in their previous shift, Travis Konecny was the clubs best player. The right winger collected two goals , including a shorthanded one in just over 21 minutes of ice time.

Bobby Brink has amassed an assist in two consecutive games for Flyers this season.  Brink has 69 career NHL games under his belt, gathering 11 goals and 18 assists.

Philadelphia Flyers at Edmonton Oilers betting tips

This Oilers roster is too good to be (0-3-0) with all the given hype they received entering this year. The defending Western Conference champions are not only averaging five goals allowed per game, the offense has dried up only posting three goals in as many games.

The Flyers have had their fair share of trials and tribulations when it comes to road performances. Dating back to last year, Philadelphia are 2-9 straight up in their 11 away bouts.

Similar to last year’s start, the Oilers are displaying their defensive lapses and can’t get a timely save from either Skinner or Pickard. Both participants for Tuesday night’s encounter early on are currently ranked near the bottom in goals allowed per game with (4.0 for the Flyers) and (5.0 for the Oilers).

Think this will be a fast game on ice and will feature goals with both teams lighting the lamp. Historically this matchup has seen equitable allocation of goals as the over has hit  in eight of Philadelphia’s last 10 games when facing the Oilers in Edmonton.
