Floyd Mayweather once went on a $7 million shopping spree and needed extra security from special forces.

Mayweather lives a luxurious lifestyle which is a nod to his incredible time in the boxing ring, where he pocketed over $1.2 billion in total earnings from his 50 fights.

Mayweather has lived a luxury lifestyle

The American legend has been known to splash out his wealth on a whole host of luxury items, investments and experiences which he regularly flaunts to his loyal fanbase on social media.

And that continued during a July 2023 trip to South Africa, where he was visiting as part of his Motherland tour.

Mayweather went to an outlet store of luxury designer label Gucci, having regularly shopped with them before sporting a series of their designer items.

And it was reported that he spent a total of $7 million on a huge haul while in the shop, which appeared to be closed off to other customers.

While in the store, he was accompanied by his traditional huge entourage, who all work with the star as part of his ‘Money Team’.

But it was the scenes outside the store that caused a stir, with fans clearly gathering word that Mayweather had arrived.

He was escorted out by a sea of armed guards who surrounded him and walked him to his vehicle as he exited through the main door.

Some were special security employed by the national police force, while a couple were armed but had Mayweather’s name printed on their jacket.

He was greeted by a huge roar and a raucous atmosphere as South African natives travelled down to catch a glimpse of the boxing superstar.

Mayweather left and it was later revealed that he had purchased goods up to $7 million, an incredible total.

It is not the first time that the legend has spent big, having bought a single watch worth $18 million in the past.

The legend has also heavily invested in properties including recently selling his Beverly Hills mansion for $48 million, having purchased it for $26 million.

Mayweather has put himself in this position with some incredibly big paydays in boxing, including his two largest against Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor.

He earned in excess of $150 million for his 2014 clash with Pacquiao, which is still the highest selling pay-per-view fight of all-time.

Equally for his retirement fight against McGregor in 2017, he pocketed a mammoth $250 million payday when retiring with a perfect 50-0 record.

But the icon insists that his best investment came when he became a free agent by sacrificing $750,000.

He famously bought out of his promotional contract with Top Rank, and went on to secure huge paydays against the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya.

He recalled: “My philosophy is never stop getting it. Currency over legacy. Currency over legacy.

“I invested in myself, remember I was with a company, I don’t have to say the company’s name, but I was with this company for a very long time.

“As soon as I bought myself out of my contract for $750,000, I left and in my first fight, I made crazy money when I was my own boss.

“It was one of the best investments I made and in three fights, Canelo, Pacquiao, and McGregor, I made $750million just in three fights.

“So, it’s just all about just being smart, playing chess in the real world, and surrounding yourself with great people and people that believe in you and believe in your goals.

“Always know that you’re not the only smart person in the room. Surround yourself with smart, intelligent people, and always know there is no limit to how far we can go and how far we can grow.”
