Michael Jordan ended his 13-year ownership of the Charlotte Hornets last year.
The NBA icon sold his majority stake in the Hornets for $3billion after a long spell in charge following his decision to buy the team in 2010.

Things didn’t go too smoothly under Jordan’s ownership as they failed to win a Playoff series and went seven years without reaching the post-season before his exit.
He was still proud of his work though, and he certainly made a huge positive impact on the Hornets’ brand, business and community.
But his role has changed in the last year and talkSPORT.com takes a look at whether he is still involved in Charlotte…
Is Jordan still involved with the Hornets?
Jordan does still have some involvement with the Charlotte Hornets.
He remained a minority stakeholder despite selling the team in August 2023.
But his role is a lot less hands-on and it’s a group led by Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin who have run the NBA franchise since buying it from Jordan.
Schnall and Plotkin are the majority owners of the Hornets and are now heading into their second season with the team.
Rapper J. Cole and country music singer-songwriter Eric Church are also part of the group.
So, Jordan remains involved but the team is not in his hands now as he focuses on his family and ‘personal interests’.
He released an emotional letter as he confirmed he had sold his majority stake last year, explaining that he would still be supporting the team.

“Although my love for the game of basketball and the NBA remain strong, now is the right time for me to hand over the reins and focus on my family, my personal interests and some new challenges,” Jordan said.
“I’m excited to see what the future holds, and I look forward to supporting the team and the community in my new role for many years to come.
“This is a Thank You, not a goodbye, because the state of North Carolina, the city of Charlotte and the Hornets will always have a special place in my heart.”
He continued: “I’m proud of all that the organization accomplished: the exciting on-court moments, the return of the Hornets name, Charlotte hosting the 2019 NBA All-Star Game and HSE (Hornets Sports and Entertainment) becoming a true pillar of this community.
“Through the years, the unwavering commitment, passion and loyalty of our Hornets fans has been incredible.
“As I transition into a minority ownership role, I’m thrilled to be able to pass the reins to two successful, innovative and strategic leaders in Gabe and Rick.”
This season will be his second full year as a minority owner of the team rather than in majority control.
Jordan could well still appear at games though as his love for the Hornets is clear to see.
