Southampton head into the new Premier League weekend still looking for their first win of the season following their promotion from the Championship via the play-offs last season, with Russell Martin’s side having earned just one point from seven games so far.

Only goal difference currently separates the Hampshire side from being rock bottom of the Premier League table, though that point did come in the Saints’ most recent home game, when they earned a 1-1 draw against fellow newly-promoted side Ipswich.

The south coast side, currently three points from safety, will be desperate to get their first win on the board this weekend as they bid to climb up the table ahead of next weekend’s away trip to the four-time defending champions Manchester City.

Leicester picked up their first win of the league season just before last weekend’s international break, making them the only newly promoted side to have recorded a win so far since their return to the top flight.

Steve Cooper’s side’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth lifted them three points clear of the relegation zone and with a large spring in their step heading into their upcoming fixtures, each of which they will see as very winnable games.

The Foxes take on Nottingham Forest and Ipswich following this weekend’s match, and having beaten Bournemouth a fortnight ago, their eyes will firmly be set on collecting maximum points from this stretch of four games to leave them sitting comfortably in midtable.

The reigning Championship title holders make the trip to the south coast having lost just one of their last five matches in all competitions, and with an aggregate 9-1 win across both sides’ meetings last season, confidence will be sky high for the Foxes.

There will be two differing moods in either camp ahead of this weekend’s huge clash, with Southampton low on confidence and desperate for a win having picked up just a point from their first seven games, and Leicester with their tails up after their first win of the season a fortnight ago.

Despite being the bookies’ underdogs, I expect Leicester will get the better out result out of this fixture following their huge confidence boost a fortnight ago, suggesting they’ve found their feet in the top flight now, something that the Saints can’t yet claim.

Southampton will give their all but I expect the Premier League experience in the Foxes squad will be too much and they’ll run out 2-1 winners at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Facundo Buonanotte has impressed largely in his performances for Leicester since signing on loan Brighton for the season, putting in a man of the match performance against Bournemouth a fortnight ago which included a goal to make him the Foxes’ joint leading scorer in the Premier League this season.

Saturday’s match will be a huge one for both teams but Leicester currently seem to be the one in the best position to go and win having seemingly acclimatised to the lofty standards of the Premier League.

Cooper and Martin have met on just two occasions in their managerial careers, with the Welshman coming on top in both occasions, winning 4-1 and 5-1, and will expect to have the upper hand on Saturday once again.
