Cristiano Ronaldo is raking in it after earning more than any football player on the planet last year.

According to Forbes, the Portuguese superstar made a staggering £218million over the last 12 months – more than any other footballer in history.

The 39-year-old earned £168million from his lucrative contract with Al Nassr, while making an additional £50million from sponsorship deals.

Incredibly, Ronaldo has also now led the annual list for the sixth time in the last decade.

With the Portuguese superstar tied to the Saudi club until next summer at least, it would take a brave person to bet against him topping the list again next year.

Ronaldo’s £218million fortune dwarfed the sum earned by his arch-rival, Lionel Messi over that time period.

During the last 12 months the Argentine superstar earned £103million.

While Messi’s off-field earnings of £57million surpassed that of Ronaldo, the £46million earned by Messi at Inter Miami paled into insignificance compared to the sums on offer in Saudi Arabia.

Neymar is third on the list after earning £84million last year.

Despite enduring an injury-hit time with Al Hilal, the Brazilian earned £62million on his club contract with an additional £23million in sponsorshop.

Karim Benzema is fourth on the list after earning £80million – a sum made possible thanks to his own lucrative Saudi-based contract with Al Ittihad.

Meanwhile Kylian Mbappe is fifth on the list with earnings of £69million following his move from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid.
