PSG vs Strasbourg predictions

We are still only a fifth of the way through the Ligue 1 season, yet it is nevertheless a surprise that Paris Saint-Germain are not sitting at the summit of the standings.

Luis Enrique’s side are not far off. They rank second ahead of this weekend and are just two points shy of first place. But based on what we have seen so far, PSG should take nothing for granted this term.

The club from the capital have been the title favourites each and every season for more than a decade. But they have not always ended up with the trophy in their hands.

In 2016/17, PSG were bumped down to second by a brilliant Monaco team that contained the young talents of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho and Thomas Lemar among others.

Four years later PSG were again runners-up, as Lille pipped them to the post by a single point.

Could it happen again? It will be difficult for either first-placed Monaco or third-placed Marseillel to keep pace with PSG given the sheer talent at Luis Enrique’s disposal.

True, the Parisians lost Mbappe to Real Madrid last summer, but their wage bill still outstrips that of every other team in the division. And in Luis Enrique they have a coach who would be a candidate for virtually any other managerial job out there.

Yet Monaco have started the season brilliantly and Marseille, led by the exciting Roberto De Zerbi, have put together a very handy squad.

So while the Champions League remains the priority for PSG, who have never before been crowned kings of the continent, they must ensure they do not take their eye off the ball domestically.

PSG have dropped points in two games already, drawing 1-1 with both Stade de Reims and Nice away from home. Strasbourg will aim to make it three this weekend.

They too have got out of the blocks quickly under new manager Liam Rosenior, whose team have been beaten just once in their opening seven encounters. Strasbourg are seventh in the table as they prepare for Saturday’s showdown with the champions in Paris.

PSG vs Strasbourg betting tips

Ligue 1 returns after the October international break, with PSG in action against Strasbourg.

PSG to win and both teams to score

Rosenior was harshly dismissed by Hull City after narrowly missing out on the Championship play-offs last season. He deserves credit for making the leap to Ligue 1 when it would have been easy to stay within his comfort zone in England.

He has made Strasbourg tough to beat, with PSG, Lens and Monaco the only teams with fewer defeats so far.

Strasbourg are scoring plenty of goals to boot – they have notched 14 in total, fewer than only PSG, Marseille and Nice.

They are certainly capable of making the net ripple at the Parc des Princes. Overall, though, it is tough to look past a PSG win.

The champions are particularly strong at home and they should have too much quality for Rosenior’s charges.

Go for a PSG win and both teams to score at 11/8 with SBK

PSG to score in both halves

Strasbourg have had little trouble going forward, but they do need to tighten up at the back.

They have shipped 12 goals in six games up to now, giving them the joint-seventh leakiest defence in the division.

That does not bode well for a clash with PSG given the attacking talent in the ranks of the reigning champions.

Luis Enrique’s men are averaging three goals per game so far in 2024/25. Their record at home is even more impressive: 12 goals in just three matches in front of their own supporters.

PSG scored either side of the interval in each of those encounters and they can do so again when Strasbourg come to town.

Tip PSG to score in both halves at 8/11 with SBK

Ousmane Dembele to score any time

Ousmane Dembele was recently dropped from the squad by Luis Enrique due to disciplinary reasons. The forward played no part in the Champions League game against Arsenal, which PSG lost 2-0.

“When a player doesn’t meet their obligations, this is the sort of thing that can happen. Everything is now in order,” the manager said.

That last sentence paved the way for Dembele to return to the XI against Nice prior to the international break.

Disciplinary issues aside, the France international has been one of PSG’s standout performers in the first couple of months of the campaign.

He can still be frustrating with regards to his decision-making and final ball, but on his day Dembele is one of the most dangerous attackers around.
