Bournemouth vs Arsenal predictions

We look to be in store for another high quality Premier League title race this season, which means Arsenal can ill-afford to drop points in games like this one.

That is not to say Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth will be easy. In fact, this can be filed under the column marked ‘potential banana skin’. But if they are to finally get the better of Manchester City, Arsenal simply must win the vast majority of their matches against teams outside the top eight.

Mikel Arteta’s men have had a decent start to the season. They have amassed 17 points from their first seven games by winning five and drawing two. They sit third in the table, level on points with City and just one behind Liverpool.

Arsenal have had some difficult away games up to now. Seven points from a possible nine at Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and City makes for an excellent return.

The only real bump in the road was a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, but even then there were mitigating circumstances. Arsenal were 1-0 up and in full control until Declan Rice was sent off early in the second half, allowing Brighton back into the encounter.

Immediately prior to the October international break, Arsenal survived a scare at home to Southampton. The visitors to the Emirates Stadium took a shock lead, but the Gunners bounced back to run out 3-1 winners.

Turning their attention to this weekend, Arsenal fans can draw confidence from their team’s record against Bournemouth since the latter were first promoted to the top flight in 2015. The two sides have met 15 times since then and Arsenal have triumphed on 12 occasions.

Bournemouth have celebrated just one victory over the north Londoners in the last nine years, and that was back in January 2018 when Arsene Wenger was still calling the shots at the Emirates.

Bournemouth have had a mixed start to the current campaign. They head into this fixture in 13th place having won two, drawn two and lost three of their seven outings so far. Andoni Iraola’s team are looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Leicester City a fortnight ago.

Bournemouth vs Arsenal betting tips

Arsenal should collect all three points when they face Bournemouth on the south coast.

Arsenal to win and both teams to score

Bournemouth have lost only one of their three home games so far this term and they were somewhat unfortunate to go down 1-0 to Chelsea last month.

Indeed, the Cherries created the better chances in that match, only to be undone by a late sucker punch from Christopher Nkunku.

Creating opportunities has not been a problem for Bournemouth throughout the first seven games of 2024/25. They rank sixth in the division for expected goals, just one place behind their upcoming opponents.

Of course, breaching the backline of Arsenal is far from easy. Yet we have seen enough from Bournemouth to be reasonably confident in their chances of doing so on Saturday.

However, Arteta’s charges will almost certainly prove too strong overall. An away win is the way to go in this one.

Back Arsenal to win and both teams to score at 21/10 with Paddy Power

Draw at half-time

Arsenal should not expect to have everything their own way at the Vitality Stadium.

Many of their players have only recently returned from international duty, and it could take a bit longer than usual for Arteta’s side to find their rhythm.

Bournemouth are not an easy team to play against. Ten or so years ago, that sort of description would imply they were a side that liked to sit deep and were tough to break down.

In fact, the Cherries press with aggression and intensity in an attempt to win the ball back high up the pitch. That will give Arsenal something to think about.

In the end, the Gunners should be able to find the right answers – but do not be surprised if honours are even at the interval.

Bukayo Saka to score any time

Bukayo Saka is a gem. Whereas other players that participated all the way through Euro 2024 have taken a while to get going this season, the Arsenal man has hit the ground running.

In his usual understated way, Saka has had a huge impact on Arsenal’s strong start to the campaign.

Going into gameweek eight, only Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer can better his tally of nine goals and assists combined.

Saka has only scored twice, but he has set up his team-mates seven times – by far the best record in the Premier League so far. His own goal tally will surely increase soon.

Saka suffered an injury scare during the international break, but he looks set to feature on Saturday.
