It was excitement in Entebbe Municipality as the third edition of the Aviation run was successfully held on Sunday, 20th October 2024 under the theme “Safe Skies, Sustainable future”.
The start and finishing points for the 5KM and 10KM runs was at Entebbe Mayor’s Gardens in Division A.
Both races were officially flagged off by Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) director general Fred Bamwesigye.
The event was organized by UCAA, in partnership with Uganda Aeronautical information services officers’ Association (UGAISOA).

Bamwesigye hinted that year’s aviation run is one of the events organized by Uganda Civil Aviation Authority to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) slated for early December 2024.
The other activities include a golf tournament, chess event and a stakeholders’ symposium.
The proceeds from this year’s aviation run will be used to construct sanitary towel facilities in the districts of Jinja and Namayingo.
These sanitary towel facilities will provide the girl child with sanitary towels in the most affected schools like Budondo and Namiyango primary school.
Bamwesigye was the guest of honour as he lauded the aviation fraternity, partners and distinguished guests.

The third edition of the Aviation run will rhyme in celebration for the 80th year of international civil aviation in the world. This event is pertinent. You are all welcome to this event. The participation and tremendous support has encouraged us. I thank you all partners for mobilizing stakeholders. In a special way, I acknowledge all our partners as DHL, Entebbe Municipal Council, National Water and Sewage Corporation, Clarkson, Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC), Kajjansi Aviation, Yalicos, China Construction Company, Uganda Air cargo, Menzi Aviation, Air operators, schools, ministries, Air serv, Uganda Airlines, DAS, Uganda Aviation Academy, Kids of Africa and others. With deep experience, you can make aviation well run. The growth of aviation depends on you. UCAA has continued to improve tremendously. Being landlocked, the main link for Uganda to the rest of the world is air transport and we want to make it better. We want to continue improving both passengers and cargo. Top performers:
10 KM (Men):
Daniel Comboni (Kids of Africa) won the men 10 KM race to take home a gold medal and Ug.Shs 500,000.
Felix Ayiko (Airforce) came second to bag Ug.Shs 300,000 and a silver medal.
Ruteezo (Airforce) was third for a bronze and Ug.Shs 200,000.
10 KM (Women):
Jacinta Nambuya (Uganda Airlines) was winner in the women 10KM race with Viola Kalembe (Uganda Civil Aviation) taking second place (silver and Ug.Shs 200,000).
Linda Nabukeera (Entebbe Comprehensive School) in third place for a bronze and Ug.Shs 200,000.
5KM (Men):
Airforce’s Raymond Omara won the men 5KM race to take gold and Ug.Shs 300,000 ahead of Patrick Labeja from Kampala Kids (silver and 200,000).
Lymon Tomonya was the second runners up (bronze and Ug.Shs 100,000).

5KM (Women):
Patience Asasira from Yalicos was the winner for the gold medal that came with Ug.Shs 300,000.
Entebbe Comprehensive School’s Praise Natukunda finished second to be rewarded with a silver and Ug.Shs 200,000.
Gift Amutaire from Entebbe Comprehensive School came third for bronze and Ug.Shs 100,000.
Moses Obbi, the president of Uganda Aeronautical information services officers’ Association (UGAISOA) disclosed to the media that Namayingo primary school will house the sanitary towel facility for Namayingo district.

Obbi noted that the talks are in high gear with the Landlord in Budondo zone, Jinja district to have a sanitary facility at one of his buildings that will manufacture sanitary towels for school going girls and women.
UCAA and UGAISOA are devoted to supporting young girls in Namayingo and Budondo by equipping them with the necessary resources and knowledge for improve menstrual health.
They are also connecting aviation safety and sustainability with the broader idea of social responsibility.
