Jamie Carragher was jokingly warned to leave his CBS Sports banter with Micah Richards away from the Sky Sports studio by presenter Kelly Cates.

Liverpool legend Carragher was on punditry duty for his former employers’ 2-1 win against Chelsea on Sunday to keep them top of the Premier League.

Sitting alongside him in the studio at Anfield was Richards, with the duo a popular pair on CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage.

The former defenders are well liked for their on-screen chemistry and theatrical antics, but Sky Sports’ Cates – daughter of Liverpool icon Kenny Dalglish – just wanted to calm things down a little.

During their post-match analysis, Carragher believed Liverpool should have had a penalty for Robert Sanchez’s challenge on Curtis Jones.

“You’ve firmed up a bit,” Cates told him before Richards added: “You were 50-50 at half-time, has someone been in your DM’s?”

It caused the studio to burst into the laughter, with Carragher then insisting: “No it was a penalty, you leave my DM’s out of it.”

With Carragher and Richards’ CBS antics seemingly crossing over onto Sky Sports, Cates jokingly said: “Alright, don’t bring your CBS chat on here.”

Carragher and Richards beamed with joy after seeing the funny side, though a confused Daniel Sturridge stated, ‘Chill out man, what’s going on?’

Social media was loving the interaction, as one X user said: “‘Don’t bring your CBS chat here’ is phenomenal from Kelly Cates.”

Another messaged: “Kelly Cates is the best.”

Arne Slot’s rampant Liverpool took the lead against Chelsea in the 29th minute thanks to Mohamed Salah’s penalty after an adjudged Levi Colwill foul on Jones.

The Reds were awarded a second penalty before half-time when Chelsea’s Sanchez was deemed to have brought down Jones in the box.

Referee John Brooks’ decision was overturned by VAR though and the score remained 1-0 at the break.

Carragher said during half-time that the decision could have gone either way, but then changed his stance after the match.

Replays showed that Sanchez did make contact with the ball despite Jones falling to ground, although Carragher was left surprised.

“You used to say years ago when you’re playing, ‘I won the ball ref.’ You clipped the ball and you just take someone out, you say, ‘I won the ball first.’

“Those days are well gone, you can’t get away with just getting the ball first and then to take Curtis Jones the way he did…

“Listen, I understand he’s got nowhere else to go but he just comes in, just takes him out. The fact the referee gave it, I’m very surprised they overturned that, I think it should have been a penalty.”

Chelsea levelled the scoring moments at the start of the second-half through Nicolas Jackson but Jones scored the winner for Liverpool just moments later.

Slot’s side sit top of the table ahead of Manchester City and four points clear of Arsenal, who they face away from home on Sunday.
