Three weeks ago, John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda returned to Kitende in the capacity of assistant coach, the same role he occupied back in 2016 when he joined his mentor, Abdallah Mubiru before an early exit.

However, a week later, his boss Nikola Kavazovic was fired and literally, Ayala who returns with more experience is head coach although the club didn’t formally communicate that.

The Kitende based side considers Luyinda and Fred Muhumuzza as co-head coaches, a system co-opted by Mamelodi Sundowns a couple of seasons ago but in reality, Luyinda will be the man tasked with making tough decisions.

The soft-spoken tactician returns with more experience having assumed and excelled a head coaching role at Wakiso Giants, the first time he stood on his own after breaking off Mubiru combo.

At his unveiling at Wakiso Giants, he made a statement that left whoever that questioned his ability to stand on his own awed.

“Whoever doubts me then doubts the coaches I have worked with yet they are arguably the best in the land,” he told the media then.

Ayala had then worked with George ‘Best’ Nsimbe, Abdallah Mubiru, Mike Mutebi and Morley Byekwaso.

During his two-year stint at Wakiso Giants, the club played the most entertaining football in the premier league and had a great impact on the careers of New York Red Bulls II duo of Ibrahim Kasule and Frank Ssebuufu, Titus Ssematimba, Moses Aliro, Hassan Ssenyonjo, Lawrence Bukenya, Shariph Kimbowa and a host of youngsters including Marvin Nyanzi and Marvin Mukiibi.

Besides experience, Luyinda is one of the best Ugandan coaches that gives attention to every detail.

He is one person who thinks and breathes football, organizes his teams well and also reads the game well plus pays attention to opponents’ strategy and finds solution.

A very good man manager as well who deals well with players and on top of that, lets the players express themselves which brings out their A game.

In the two matches he has taken charge during the time Kavazovic was suspended, all the above was visible as his teams capitalised on errors from opponents to get goals.

In Luyinda, Vipers got a gem who can improve the side both in performance and results and hopefully, he is given time and authority to execute his work as his combo with Muhumuzza appears promising.
