Arsenal got back to winning ways on Tuesday night in the Champions League with a slight nervy 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk at home, just three days after suffering their first defeat of the season at Bournemouth last weekend.
The defeat for Mikel Arteta’s side meant they lost crucial ground in the Premier League title race, where they now sit four behind behind the league leaders Liverpool, three behind four-time defending champions Manchester City and only ahead of fourth-placed Aston Villa on goal difference.
It looks a strong possibility that the Gunners will be without arguably their three most important players for Sunday’s huge clash with Liverpool at the top of the table, with William Saliba suspended after last week’s red card, club captain Martin Odegaard injured, and Bukayo Saka also an injury doubt.
The north London side will take confidence in the knowledge that they’ve won five of their last six matches in all competitions though, and know that a win in front of their home fans on Sunday will put them right back in the picture for their first Premier League title in 21 years.

Liverpool made it eight wins in a row and 11 wins from 12 matches all season in all competitions with a 1-0 victory in Germany over Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday night, leaving them one of only teams to have won all three games in the competition so far.
Arne Slot has really hit the ground running since becoming Jurgen Klopp’s replacement as Liverpool manager, but Sunday’s will likely be seen as his biggest test since taking the role so far, away from home against a genuine title contender.
The Reds’ 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend saw them maintain their one point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and will fill them with confidence ahead of Sunday’s tie as they look to maintain their lead atop the league standings.
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last four league games with Liverpool, winning both of their home matches over the last two seasons, but the Reds did win at the Emirates in the third round of the FA Cup at the start of 2024.
