Carolina Hurricanes at Calgary Flames predictions
Forward Sebastian Aho currently leads the team with six points on the year. Tuesday night two-point performance saw Aho score the winning goal for the Hurricanes with seven seconds left in the extra frame. The 27-year-old is in prime form, obtaining a point in four consecutive games.
Shayne Gostisbehere continued his goal-scoring ways, hitting the back of the net for the fourth time this year. The team’s current leading goal-getter saw just over 19 minutes of action on the blue line against the Oilers. The veteran defenseman has 624 NHL games under his belt, with 372 career points to his account.
The Calgary Flames’ most unlikely top-producing player is off to a blistering start. Defensemen Rasmus Andersson has picked up three goals and five assists, leading the Flames in each category. The sturdy backline member on the d-core is logging just over 23 minutes per game of ice time while possessing a +7 differential.
Early into the season, there are whispers of Calder candidate talk between the pipes for the Flames netminder Dustin Wolf. So far into his rookie campaign Wolf is three-for-three in games won while owning a 2.30 GAA with a .936 save percentage.
The unexpected hero Tuesday night was AHL journeymen forward Justin Kirkland. The 28-year-old scored the winning goal in the shootout in the sixth round against the Penguins. Kirkland received just over 14 minutes of ice time pocketing the primary assist in Calgary’s first-period opening goal versus Pittsburgh.
Carolina Hurricanes at Calgary Flames betting tips
The Hurricanes have enjoyed their trips to Calgary over the years, as they are 6-2 in their last eight visits to the Saddledome. Carolina overall dating back to the last 20 away games have found success as road warriors winning in 13 instances.
The Flames and Hurricanes have produced cagey affairs on Saddledome ice in their previous meetings, which saw the listed under-goal mark hit in 10 out of the last 13 occurrences. Overall for the Flames this year, through six games, five goals or less were recorded in three games as goes the same for Carolina but in one less game played.
Thursday’s duel we believe the trend should continue in seeing this matchup between these two opponents result in going under the six-goal mark. Dating back to their previous 92 games, in 54 occurrences the Hurricane’s games went under the inscribed goal total. Both teams’ probable starters have a combined .938 save percentage to kick start the 2024/25 campaign, we should see both shot-stoppers bring their “A” game.
