Uganda Cranes have been nominated for the National Team of the Year in the forthcoming 2024 CAF Awards.
The Cranes are amongst the ten nominees alongside African champions Ivory Coast, fellow Afcon 2025 qualifiers group K mates South Africa as well as giants Nigeria and Morocco.
Others in the category include DR Congo, neighbours and Cecafa nation Sudan, Angola, Burkina Faso and Mozambique, Uganda’s opponents in the qualifiers for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.

Elsewhere, ex-Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre earns a nomination in the coach of the year award category while Tanzanian clubs Young Africans and Simba are in the initial category for the club of the year as well Mamelodi Sundowns, home to Ugandan legend Denis Masinde Onyango.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, Marcel Koller of Caf Champions League winners Al Ahly, Emerse Fae who guided The Elephants to Afcon title as well as Florent Ibenge (Al Hilal) and Kwesi Appiah (Sudan) are also in the running for the coach of the year.

Besides Yanga, Simba and Sundowns, the club of the year category also has Al Ahly, Esperance, TP Mazembe and RS Berkane of Morocco among others.
South Africa’s Ronwen Williams leads the nomination in the goalkeeper of the year category along with Manchester United and Cameroon star Andre Onana with the former also nominated as the only goalkeeper in the Player of the Year category.
For the second year on the bounce, the awards ceremony will be held in Marrakech, Morocco on December 16.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year is Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen (men category), with his compatriot Asisat Oshoala also claiming the honours in the women’s category.
