After a 47-9 thrashing at the hands of the Detroit Lions in Arlington Texas, things don’t get any easier for the Dallas Cowboys as they hit the road to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the early hours of Monday morning.
Dallas were humiliated on their own patch by the Lions, who began running plays with their offensive linemen, such was their dominance at AT&T Stadium.
With the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles ahead of them in the NFC East standings, the Cowboys can’t afford too many more defeats if they are to reach the play-offs this season.
Next up is a trip to Levi’s Stadium, to face a 49ers side who seem to look like a shadow of the team that managed to reach the Super Bowl last season before a 25-22 OT defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Sitting on a 3-4 record and going into this game on the back of a 28-18 defeat to the Chiefs in a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl, the pressure is on quarterback Brock Purdy to deliver against his opposite number Dak Prescott and the Cowboys.

Cowboys to leave Levi’s empty-handed once again
It’s fair to say Levi’s Stadium was not a happy hunting ground for the Dallas Cowboys last year, with the Texas outfit losing twice at the Santa Clara venue.
A 19-12 play-off defeat in January 2023, was followed by a 42-10 thrashing in their last meeting the following season.
Those results mean the 49ers have now won all of their last three meetings with the Cowboys, who might struggle to pick themselves up off the floor after that disastrous performance against the Lions last time out.
Prescott has been coming under some heavy pressure, but there seems to be too much responsibility on his shoulders, with the Cowboys running game so ineffective this season.
With just two rushing touchdowns this term, one of those coming from Prescott himself, Dallas are relying too heavily on their quarterback to do the business through the air.
If the 49ers can stop the Cowboys passing game, they win this match with room to spare.
A San Fran win with a -5.5 handicap would have landed in all of their last three encounters with Dallas and we expect the trend to continue on Monday.
Kittle can strike again
San Fran’s tight end George Kittle ran riot the last time the Cowboys were in town last season, as he scored three touchdowns from three receptions for 67 yards.
Those are frighteningly efficient stats from a player who has also made a positive start to this campaign with five touchdowns already to his name.
Also contributing 375 receiving yards to the 49ers offence from 34 receptions, Kittle is a key weapon for Purdy and a player capable of coming up with big plays.
Having scored a hat-trick of touchdowns last time against the Cowboys, Kittle appeals at 5/4 to score at least one TD against this fragile Dallas defence on Monday.
