Frank Warren insists Tyson Fury could meet Oleksandr Usyk in a trilogy, breaking a remarkable heavyweight record.

Fury is set to rematch Usyk on December 21 for the chance to avenge his first career defeat, after he was outpointed by the Ukrainian in their undisputed clash in May.

The ‘Gypsy King’ revealed this week that he intends to pursue a third meeting if he levels the playing field with a win, a trilogy which would be his third as a heavyweight.

He would become the only blue-riband competitor to have fought in three trilogies with a world title involved in each, given his previous sagas with Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder.

And in an exclusive interview on talkSPORT Fight Night, his promoter Frank Warren believes it will be on the table if he is able to get a result later this year.

He said: “I’m sure Tyson said that himself and that is exactly what it will be and what can happen.

“And I do believe he will beat him [to set up the trilogy]. I go back to that first fight with Deontay Wilder which I believed he won but was scored a draw.

“He got his head around that after being on the floor late on, and did a job on Deontay Wilder in that second fight.

“That is what I feel he has to do with Usyk, keep doing a lot of what he did in the first half of the fight.

“But he should do away with some of the showboating and keep switched on at all times and put the pressure on.

“Then we can see if that happens.”

Fury would only be matched by 1900’s heavyweight Jack Dempsey, who fought three different opponents on three occasions, but the meetings were not for world titles.

It would be an unprecedented achievement for the Briton, and would etch his name once again in the history books.

Fury fought Wilder in one of the most epic heavyweight trilogies of all-time, beating the American twice in their last two meetings in 2020 and 2021.

The former two-time champion most recently shared the ring in a voluntary world title defence in 2022, who he beat comfortably for a third consecutive time having fought his rival previously in 2011 and 2014 at British title level.

Before concerning himself with a third instalment, Fury faces an uphill battle to avenge his defeat to Usyk in their sequel.

It was just the first defeat of his career, and many believe some improvements could be enough to see him dethrone the undefeated star at the second time of asking.

If he is able to do so, Usyk’s manager Alex Krassyuk has already insisted they would entertain a third clash before Usyk hangs up his gloves.

He told talkSPORT on White & Jordan: “Why not? Boxing has had this in the past.

“If the people want to see this for a third time or a fourth time, it may well happen.

“Boxing is all about the desire of the fans, and Turki Alalshikh [Chairman of Saudi General Entertainment Authority] is the man that is currently making their dreams come true.”
