Forget ‘Snoop Dogg’, the American rapper will be known as ‘Hoop Dogg’ if he completes his wish of investing in Celtic.
The iconic ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ artist has had a long association with sport, even turning up to the Paris 2024 Olympics in equestrian gear this summer.
Snoop Dogg is known for his love of sportGetty
Earlier this month, the news of singer Rihanna’s partner rapper A$AP Rocky’s interest in League Two Tranmere Rovers emerged.
Now, it’s Snoop that wants to follow in Wrexham owners actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ shoes and invest in a British football club.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Record, Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, admitted he would love to invest in Scottish giants Celtic.
He said: “I love what Ryan has done with Wrexham – it’s just a great story.
“Investing in a sports team has been something I have been looking at for a long time – if the chance came to invest in Celtic, I would be crazy not to take a look at it.
“I have watched so much soccer in Europe but I have never seen fans like the Celtic fans. There is something so special about them.
“There is a reason why their fans are talked about across Europe – the best players and coaches in the world tell you there is nowhere like Celtic Park and I want to be a part of that.”
And there’s one other key aspect of Celtic that makes the rapper believe him investing in the club is really meant to be.
“Their mascot is a hound – you couldn’t make that up!” he said. “Snoop Dogg becomes Hoopy the Hound – that’s gotta be a match made in heaven.
“The headlines write themselves.”

The news of Snoop’s interest will surely be music to Celtic fans’ ears, given he’s worth £120million.
He has also dreamed of duetting with fellow singer and Celtic fan, Sir Rod Stewart.
And in a bizarre crossover we never would have expected, it turns out he wants to see X Factor winner and Hoops fan Susan Boyle make a comeback with him too.
“Susan Boyle is a name everybody is going to remember,” he said. “My boy Simon Cowell knows a star when he sees one and knows how to make serious money for everybody involved.
“I haven’t heard about her in a long time but Susan needs to make a comeback. I’d love to sing with her.”
Celtic are currently owned by a number of shareholders, including Dermot Desmond and Lindsell Train, who together own more than half of the club’s shares.
Hoops fans also hold a large number of shares.
We’re sure Rodgers and co wouldn’t say no to a cash injection from SnoopGetty
The Celtic Trust is a fan organisation that aim to prevent any one person or group from taking control of the club.
So should Celtic and Snoop have a ‘Beautiful’ partnership, he will be more likely to become another investor as opposed to being the sole owner.
Still, Snoop Dogg x Brendan Rodgers would be pretty iconic.
Over to you, Celtic!
The Hoops are currently in second in the Scottish Premiership, three points behind leaders Aberdeen with a game in hand.
