Simon Jordan and Sam Jones disagree on Chris Eubank Jr’s potential next opponent.

Eubank Jr recently made his comeback in a stoppage win over Kamil Szeremeta and has several options on the table as he looks to push for the biggest purses and world title opportunities.

Conor Benn leapt into the ring after the fight and the pair faced off, with the Britons both verbally agreeing to a clash in 2025.

But reports have now emerged that Eubank Jr has resumed talks with 168lbs unified world champion Canelo Alvarez over a blockbuster meeting in the new year.

Simon Jordan and Sam Jones disputed their respective plans for Eubank Jr during the latest episode of talkBOXING, with the latter beginning by suggesting a fight with Alvarez will not happen.

He began: “I don’t believe the fight’s going to happen in a million years.

“It’s like with Terence Crawford. He was meant to fight Terence Crawford. He was meant to fight Canelo. It didn’t happen. I’m putting my neck on the line – that fight does not happen.

“Why on earth would Canelo Alvarez come and fight Chris Eubank Jr? David Benavidez is the fight I want to see. I want to see Benn against Eubank and I want to see Canelo fight David Benavidez.

“He makes triple what he earns against Conor Benn, against a welterweight, rather than Canelo Alvarez. They’ve already offered Eubank Jr that fight and he turned it down.”

Jordan then countered his point, questioning: “But it’s not the same question. The question is – is it right for Chris Eubank? So if it’s about legacy, if it’s about an opportunity, you say he would have fought him.

“He’s now got an opportunity to fight him. It must be the right fight for him.”

Jones then continued: “No, I genuinely don’t believe that. You can’t say to me, Eubank Jr against Canelo is a closer fight than Conor Benn against Eubank.

“Eubank against Conor Benn is a much closer fight than against Canelo against Eubank. Eubank Jr against Canelo is not competitive.”

Fellow host Spencer Oliver chimed in: “But they’re the same weight division. That’s what he’s saying.”

Jones responded: “Yeah, but I’m probably the same weight as you. It’s not going to be competitive, is it?”

Jordan then made his final point and stated his plan, concluding: “We’re divided. I would prefer to see Eubank Jr in a fight where [he answers] the accusations that people make about the fact that he doesn’t actually take the meaningful fights.

“He talks about getting good fights, and really all we’re doing is fuelling his house in Las Vegas and his poker habit.

“I’d like to see him go and fight Canelo wherever it is, put himself to the test, because if he put in a good performance, or even, if God forbid for fact that we’d have to listen to it forever, he won, then the opportunities would be great.

“You think it’s a complete mismatch, but I think it’s the right move for him to take. And he’s going to get paid big bucks for it as well.”

Eubank Jr previously held talks with Alvarez in a comeback fight before he beat Szeremeta, but turned down the offer after being left unhappy with the financial terms.

His promoter Ben Shalom has suggested it is now being targeted for Wembley Stadium in 2025, with more time to plan and prepare for the event.

Benn is another central option, given he stated his new willingness to move to middleweight to take on his bitter rival.

The enemies were meant to throw down in October 2022, but the fight was cancelled after Benn failed a pre-fight drugs test.

Ever since, ‘The Destroyer’ has campaigned to get his showdown with Eubank Jr, and he is awaiting to hear if he will regain his British boxing licence for next year.

Either fight proposed would be a mega money-spinning night for Eubank Jr, with a rematch against Billy Joe Saunders also being eyed.
