Special moments in life are always reserved for special personalities on special occasions at special confines.

Badminton player Augustus Owiny is a special personality with special skills that deserve special recognition.

Tuesday, 29th October 2024 will remain a special day for Owiny on a special month where he won three gold medals at the recently concluded 2024 City Tyres East Africa Badminton championship at Lugogo.

For this feat, Owiny who is a business administration student at Victoria University was recognized at the Fortebet Real Stars monthly awards held at Lazo Bar and restaurant in Kololo, Kampala.

Owiny’s first gold came in singles after winning over Reagan Nsubuga in the final.

He also won gold medal in the men doubles after pairing with Muzafaru Lubega to over Shilton Tayebwa and Reagan Nsubuga.

The third gold came in the team event when Uganda beat Kenya 2-0 in the final.

“I am happy for this award and I thank the organizers who have managed to reward me. I thank my coaches and teammates as well” Owiny stated.

The two other nominated players were Tracy Naluwooza and Fadilah Shamika Muhammed.

Football:

Vipers and Uganda Cranes playmaker Allan “Jolly” Okello won the accolade.

During October, Okello was instrumental in Uganda’s back-to-back victories over South Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers at Namboole and Juba stadium.

Back home, he scored a brace for Vipers in their 2-1 home win over Police during the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

To win the plaque, Okello beat off competition from on-fire Mbarara City forward Seiri Arigumaho and Kawempe Muslim goalkeeper Josephine Nambuya.

Motorsport:

Mike Mukula Junior won the accolade in motorsport for winning the ARC2 category during the 2024 Rwanda Mountain Gorilla rally.

He finished second overall behind the defending champion and overall winner Karan Patel (Kenyan).

Mukula Jr is currently second with 47 points on the leaderboard, the best Ugandan thus far behind Patel (140 points).

“This is humbling to be recognized. I thank the entire team for this performance and I promise to perform well in remaining events” Mukula Jr stated.

Mukula Junior came top over Jas Mangat and Ronald Ssebuguzi.

Mangat is third on the ARC leaderboard with 28 points.

Meanwhile, the management committee of the Kyaggwe Ssaza team was also specially recognized prior to the long awaited 2024 Buganda Masaza Cup final this Saturday against Buddu at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

“We have recognized and rewarded the officials of Kyaggwe Ssaza team for making history to qualify to the finals of the Masaza Cup” Isaac Mukasa, the executive director of Real Stars Agency spoke to the media.

Among those recognized with plaques were David Katono Mutono (head coach), Greg Kikomeko (secretary), Hon, Steven Serubula Kinaalwa (chairperson organizing committee) and the chief Vincent Matovu Bintubizibu (Ssekiboobo).

“This is a great moment to be recognized for the great effort done to qualify for the final of the Masaza Cup. We are ready to die alittle for the team and win the trophy, the first ever in our history” Hon. Sserubula, also the member of parliament for Lugazi Municipality stated.

The Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards have been held since 2018.
