Bayer Leverkusen vs Stuttgart predictions
Not even Nostradamus would have predicted Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart making up the Bundesliga’s top two last season.
Leverkusen had never won a major trophy before Xabi Alonso led them to a sensational domestic double in 2023/24. The fact his team did not lose a single game in either the Bundesliga or the Copa del Rey makes that accomplishment even more extraordinary.
Stuttgart, in their own way, performed just as well. They were almost relegated the previous year, surviving only after they won a play-off against a promotion contender from the second tier.
Sebastian Hoeness then upset the odds to lead Stuttgart into the runners-up spot, above Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and the mighty Bayern Munich.
The question for both clubs heading into the current campaign was whether they would be able to replicate their magnificent achievements from last term.
It is too early to make a definitive judgement on that, but after eight rounds of fixtures in 2024/25 both Leverkusen and Stuttgart are below the positions in which they finished last season.
Leverkusen sit third in the table heading into this weekend. They are five points behind both Bayern and Leipzig, but that is hardly an insurmountable gap at this early stage of proceedings.
Still, Leverkusen have been far from flawless up to now. A 3-2 home defeat by Leipzig is the sort of result that can happen, while Alonso’s team dug deep to draw 1-1 with Bayern despite being outplayed for large chunks of that crunch clash in September.
More frustrating were the points Leverkusen dropped in 2-2 draws with Holstein Kiel and Werder Bremen in recent weeks. A last-minute equaliser earned Werder a point against the champions last time out; that result means Leverkusen have won just one of their last four outings in Germany’s top tier.
As for Stuttgart, they rank eighth in the table after winning three, drawing three and losing two of their first eight encounters.
Unlike Leverkusen, who managed to keep their squad intact over the summer, Stuttgart lost their top scorer Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund. Simply being involved in the European mix would represent a successful season for Hoeness’ charges.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Stuttgart betting tips
The bookies expect Bayer Leverkusen to get the better of Stuttgart in the Bundesliga this weekend.
Bayer Leverkusen to win and both teams to score
Alonso knows what Bayer Leverkusen need to work on if they are to retain the title.
Only Bayern Munich have scored more goals than the champions, but Leverkusen are struggling to keep things sufficiently tight at the back.
Remarkably, Leverkusen are yet to keep a clean sheet this season. They have conceded two goals or more in five of their eight league games. Only seven sides in the division have had their backlines breached more often.

Despite losing Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund, Stuttgart have had some success in front of the opposition goal: only Bayern and Leverkusen have outscored them up to now.
We expect goals on Friday night, with Leverkusen just edging out Stuttgart in the end.

Over 3.5 goals
If end-to-end action and all-round entertainment is what you are after, the Bundesliga is often the place to go.
Games involving four of the league’s 18 teams have featured over four goals per game on average this season. Bayern Munich and Holstein Kiel are two of those sides, while the other two are due to face off at the BayArena on Friday night.
Alonso is hoping for some less eventful fixtures in the next few weeks as he looks to make Leverkusen harder to score against.
But the champions will have their defence thoroughly tested by this Stuttgart side, for whom Deniz Undav has admirably stepped up following Guirassy’s exit.
The evidence of the campaign to date suggests this will be an exciting game under the floodlights.

Victor Boniface to score any time
After Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt a couple of weeks back, Victor Boniface was involved in a car crash.
Thankfully the Nigeria international only suffered minor injuries and he was back doing what he does best the following weekend, opening the scoring in Leverkusen’s aforementioned draw with Werder Bremen.
Boniface remains Alonso’s main man in the final third and he will be crucial to his team’s chances of victory over Stuttgart.
There is certainly room for improvement when it comes to Boniface’s all-round game, as Alonso himself has pointed out, but he is deadly in and around the penalty area.
Stuttgart are likely to learn that to their cost on Friday.
