Former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema offered Kylian Mbappe some curt advice in order to win over the fans in his first full season at the La Liga club.
Mbappe managed 256 goals across a seven-year tenure at Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain, with the hopes that he would bring his sharp shooting to the Spanish capital.
But the France superstar has now gone two matches without a goal across all competitions, since a 2-1 win over Celta Vigo in the Spanish top-flight last month.
Former Real Madrid striker Benzema, who left in 2023 to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, revealed that ‘you go two, three matches without goals, they’ll kill you’.
“Mbappe knows that there is a lot of pressure at Real Madrid. At Madrid, you go two, three matches without goals, they’ll kill you,” said Benzema.
“You can win the Ballon d’Or and you don’t score in three matches after it, the same.”
Speaking to El Chiringuito TV, Benzema added: “I think he has to learn to live with this. He has to put on a good impression in matches. Every match is a new one, and he has to score goals because they brought him to score goals only.”
Meanwhile, England international Jude Bellingham, who scored 23 goals in 42 games for Real Madrid last season, has failed to get on the scoreboard once since the start of the campaign.
It comes after it was revealed that their rivals Barcelona have scored a total of 40 goals this season so far, eclipsing that of Real Madrid (21) and Atletico Madrid (18) combined.
Mbappe, who joined Los Blancos last year on a free transfer in a move that was the subject of intense speculation, has scored eight goals and assisted two more in 14 appearances so far.
Real Madrid have not quite had the start to the season they would have hoped for, despite bringing in the star signing in the summer.
They recently suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico through a brace from Robert Lewandowski and goals from Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
The Barcelona defeat was a particularly disappointing game for the Mbappe, who thought he has found the net early in the match, only for it to be ruled out by VAR for offside.
It has been suggested that boss Carlo Ancelotti has not managed to adapt his front three to suit Mbappe, who prefers to operate for the left, an area currently fulfilled by Vinicius Junior, leaving the Frenchman to play through the middle.
Last season, Real Madrid won the Spanish title for a record 36th time, as well as winning the Champions League at Wembley with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.
Barcelona currently sit top of La Liga on 33 points, ahead of Real Madrid with 24 points, although they have a game in hand.
The club host AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday before Osasuna visit them at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.
