This is why WWE won’t pay top star Becky Lynch $2m to return as top wrestling salaries emerge

New reports have said Becky Lynch won’t be getting $2m to return to WWE – because she’s likely to earn far more.

Arguably one of the most popular and decorated wrestling stars of her generation, Lynch is presently absent from WWE but speculation as to her future rarely dies down.

She hasn’t wrestled since her battles with current Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan back in May.

Having captured the title in a Battle Royal on Raw the prior month, Lynch was unseated by Morgan at WWE’s King and Queen of the Ring event in Saudi Arabia, before being downed again two nights later on the weekly red brand show.

Reportedly out of contract, the multi-time former world champion hasn’t been seen on screens since, admitting in a recent interview that she’s taking time to relax and reflect.

“Everything is great”, she told Julian Edelman’s Games with Names.

“I have my wonderful little family. I have many options on the table. For the first time in a long time, [I] get to take a breath to appreciate everything.

“When you’re on the road 52 weeks a year, non-stop, going from town to town to town, and in the last three years, I added to the chaos by having a daughter who I would bring everywhere with me.

“On top of that, I decided it would be good to write my biography. For the last year or two, it was pure chaos.

“Now, I’m taking a little bit more time. I’m taking a breath. Getting to look around the world. Getting to look at what I created and evaluate everything.

“It’s been wonderful.”

The Man’s list of ‘creations’ she modestly refers to includes no less than seven world title reigns on WWE’s main roster, a Royal Rumble win and a reign as a tag team champion.

Unsurprisingly, fans are eager to return and, according to a new report, money isn’t likely to be an issue.

Speaking on Backstage Pass, former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman intimated that Lynch was staying away from the ring after her demand for a new $2 million deal were rejected, saying: “If they paid her, she’d be on the show.”

Such a statement has been roundly rejected internally, however, with Fightful following up to say WWE and the top star remain on good terms – and that $2 million would likely represent a coup for the company, and would expect to pay her far more than that.

They noted: “We’re told that Becky Lynch and WWE are still on good terms, and WWE was respecting Lynch’s decision to take time off.

“The $2 million number was outright denied by everyone who would know it. Lynch didn’t ask for that amount, and we’re told WWE would have jumped at that number if she did.

“The general pay scale for talent at the top or near the top of WWE and AEW are both well beyond that amount now. Lynch’s contract would be well beyond 2M a year.”

Coachman went on to speculate as to the salaries of some of WWE’s other top stars, claiming Roman Reigns is earning ‘at that 15-20 million mark,’ and Seth Rollins, Lynch’s husband, nets around ‘three to seven million range.’

While the former would appear a stab in the dark, Fightful added that the Rollins figure ‘was said to be accurate,’ with the Visionary among WWE’s top male performers.

Current WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes raised eyebrows recently by claiming the contract that took him back to the company after his stay in AEW was worth 15 times more than his first run.
