Rory McIlroy will be striving for major glory yet again in 2025 after another season of near-misses.
The Northern Irishman experienced heartbreak at the US Open in June, missing out on glory after a late collapse.
McIlroy then struggled at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon as his long wait for a fifth major title went on.
But the 35-year-old has still added to his glittering CV in 2024, winning another three big tournaments.
He’ll now hope for more hardware in 2025 and finally look to end his major drought.
How many career wins does McIlroy have?
McIlroy has a total of 40 career victories.
He has four major titles, 22 wins on the PGA Tour, 10 on the DP World Tour, one on the PGA Tour of Australasia and three other global victories.
After winning the Zurich Classic in April 2024, he became the first player to reach 25 PGA Tour wins (regular season events and majors) since 2005 after Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh did so 19 years ago.
He then won his fourth Wells Fargo Championship in May, the most recent of the victories.
Since McIlroy won his first PGA Tour trophy in 2010, there have only been two years that he has not tasted success and they came in 2017 and 2013.
But since 2018, he has won a tournament every single year.
He has won The Open, the US Open and the PGA Championship twice and also claimed glory at The Players, the BMW PGA Championship and has three World Golf Championships.
On the DP World Tour, McIlory’s most recent win came at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January.
He missed out on his second BMW PGA Championship title in September after losing to Billy Horschel in a play-off at Wentworth.
While he holds four major wins, he has been waiting a long time for his fifth, with his last success in the showpiece tournaments coming at the 2014 PGA Championship.
However, he continues to win on the tour and is surely moving closer to another major crown.
McIlory is now going to change his mindset though, after revealing the toll being a professional golfer takes on your life.
He told the Telegraph: “I need to take a step back and appreciate what I’ve done in my career and in my life and enjoy my success.
“I don’t really enjoy my success – and I haven’t I would say for the last five.
“I haven’t been on a vacation in probably four or five years. So I think just stepping back and enjoying myself a little bit more away from my game is the thing. Have some fun.
“I live on a golf course and it’s so easy to just go out there at 7pm and hit a few balls.
“So I think being able to just get away from it and give yourself that free headspace of not thinking about golf is a good thing.”
“I’m committed to having more fun going forward,” he continued.
“I like travelling, I like seeing new places. Going up to New York after Pinehurst, I enjoy that.
“I enjoy eating at new restaurants and going to new vineyards and enjoying new wines. A bit of a foodie. I enjoy seeing new parts of the world.”
