A ‘devastated’ Noel Gallagher might think twice before returning to commentate on his beloved Manchester City.

That is according to talkSPORT’s Ally McCoist, who revealed the Oasis singer had a rough time working on punditry duty as he watched his side’s crushing 4-1 loss to Sporting Lisbon.

Gallagher is a die-hard Man City supporter, following the Premier League giants home and away.

And he joined the TNT Sports commentary team for his side’s Champions League clash against Sporting, no doubt hoping to watch Pep Guardiola‘s team put on a real show.

However, things did not quite go his way, with incoming Man United boss Ruben Amorim masterminding a resounding victory as the Portuguese side came from behind to stun the Citizens.

Gallagher had been joined on commentary duty by our very own McCoist, who is in the midst of a series of European commentaries which have had him travelling round the continent.

On Thursday night, the former Rangers striker will watch his former side take on Olympiakos out in Greece in the Europa League.

Rangers have two wins and one loss from their first three European fixtures – the same as Olympiakos.

McCoist joined talkSPORT Breakfast to chat to Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil ahead of the game to discuss the Scottish side’s prospects.

But before asking about the game, Parlour had something far more pressing to ask McCoist.

The ex-Arsenal star cheekily quizzed McCoist: “Who are you commentating with, though, tonight? Is it Gordon Ramsay?

“You had Noel Gallagher at Manchester City. Is it like the celebrities all commentating with you now?”

McCoist chuckled before reflecting on how the musician had taken the defeat.

“By the way, lad, I think that’s Noel’s first and his last (appearance on commentary duty),” he quipped. “He was looking forward to it.

“And he sees his team getting battered 4-1! He was devastated after it, Ray. Devastated.”

“Mind you,” piped in Brazil cheekily, “You got four tickets to every Oasis concert, didn’t you?”

McCoist played along with a laugh.

“Oh aye, don’t worry about that,” he joked. “That was in the contract.”

On a serious note, McCoist admitted he was completely shocked by how Guardiola’s men had capitulated in the game.

“I could not believe the level of poor defending from Manchester City in that second half,” he said. “I mean, they’d completely gone!

“In a game that effectively they’d totally dominated the first half – I know Sporting Lisbon equalised towards the end of the first half – but I mean, Manchester City were in total control and then just collapsed.

“Two ridiculous challenges for the penalties and then they ended up well beaten.”

He will no doubt be desperate for his Rangers side to fare much better out in Greece, as he again takes to the airwaves to commentate on the game.

…but they were completely taken apart by Lyon though[/caption]

When asked if he would take a draw for Rangers ahead of the game, McCoist had absolutely no hesitation about his answer.

“( I would) bite your hand off for it right now,” he said. “I’ve got to say, I mean, the level of inconsistency in Rangers has been absolutely remarkable, mate.

“I mean, I was over in Sweden, they played really well in Malmo, picked up the victory. They were excellent in the home game against Steaua Bucharest.”

However, those two results sandwiched a painful 4-1 home defeat to Lyon though.

“So it’s been a little bit up and down,” McCoist admitted. “But if they could put in any sort of level of performance as they have in Europe, if they could get a draw, it’d be a great point.
