Battle at Nakivubo as Express, SC Villa renew rivalry

The stage is set for the biggest rivalry in Uganda football as Express square up against SC Villa at Hamz stadium, Nakivubo on Friday.

Both clubs, the most supported in the country with Villa the most successful with 17 league titles while Express, the oldest club currently in the Premier League are on 7 title – a combined 24 league titles.

Coming into the game, Express are on a three-match winless streak with their last victory coming against NEC more than a month ago while SC Villa beat UPDF 5-0 to end their winless run.

Badru Kaddu, the interim head coach at Express is aware that nothing short of victory against an old enemy could deny him an opportunity to be favoured for a permanent role with Brian Ssenyondo lurking.

Nearly the same pressure is faced by Morley Byekwaso who featured for both clubs during his playing career is also not safe with the Jogoo faithful calling for his head due to an abysmal start to their title defence.

The two sides are separated by two points with Villa above in 6th position with 11 points while the Red Eagles are below in 11th position on 9 points.

Former Villa captain Emmanuel Wasswa faces his former bosses with renewed energy and will be eager to make a mark.

Striker Sam Ssenyonjo with four goals in league so far will be key for hosts in searching for goals.

For SC Villa, on form Hakim Kiwanuka, league MVP Patrick Kakande and Charles Lwanga will be vital if they are to leave Nakivubo with all points.
