The NFL heads to Germany on Sunday for an early game between two struggling sides, the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers.
The teams are two of the seven who have a league-worst 2-7 record heading into Week 10 of the season and with the playoffs already effectively out of the question they are just looking to provide some hope for next season.
The international trip to the Allianz Arena in Munich could provide motivation for an improved performance as the standalone game puts the players in the spotlight.
The Giants are favourites to pick up their third win of the season, but they come in on a four-game losing run, while the Panthers received a confidence boost by earning their second win of the year against the Saints (another of the 2-7 teams) last week.

Young providing hope for Panthers in second chance
The last two years have been little short of a disaster for the Panthers after a 2-15 campaign in 2023 was followed by a 1-7 start this year, but last week’s 23-22 win over the Saints was another small step in the right direction.
The Panthers have been on the wrong end of some real hammerings this season, losing 47-10 to the Saints, 26-3 to the Chargers and 40-7 to the Commanders, but there have been signs of progress of late.
Quarterback Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 draft, had a tough time in his rookie season and lasted only two games this year before being benched in favour of veteran Andy Dalton.
He has started the last two games, though, passing for 224 yards against the Broncos and 171 in last week’s win over the Saints, and has done enough for head coach Dave Canales to give him another chance on their trip to Germany.
The Giants are favourites for the first time this season and by a decent amount, so preference is to take the Panthers in receipt of a handy start.
The New York side have not threatened to win any of their four games since they beat a Seattle team playing on a short week of preparation in Week 5.
Brian Daboll’s team are 0-5 at home this season, so might not mind a change of scenery to potentially spark an uplift in their performances, but it’s hard to argue that they should be big favourites against any team at the moment, even the struggling Panthers.
Nabers a shining light for Giants
The highlight of the Giants’ season to date has been the performance of their rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers and he should be a key figure in their offence again whatever the outcome of the game.
Nabers ranks 15th in the league for receiving yards but has played only seven games and is eighth in the NFL in yards per game with 79.6 per outing.
He has 55 receptions this season at an average of almost eight per game and can be fancied to make at least seven more against the Giants.
Nabers has caught at least seven passes in five of his last six games and has attracted 24 targets from quarterback Daniel Jones over the last two matches against the Steelers and Commanders.
