Big Mo feared the opportunity of a lifetime had slipped through his fingers when Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson got postponed in May.

Just three days prior, the fast-rising MC received a call asking if he wanted to announce what is projected to be the most-watched boxing bout of the 21st century.

LONDON, ENGLAND - MARCH 31: Kody Mommaerts, also known as 'Big Mo', announces in the ring prior to the Super Middleweight fight between Callum Simpson and Dulla Mbabe at The O2 Arena on March 31, 2024 in London, England. (Photo by James Chance/Getty Images)

He accepted without hesitation – but then Tyson was forced out of the fight with an ulcer issue, throwing everything up in the air.

“At that point, I was like, ‘Well is it going to happen?’” Big Mo – real name Kody Mommaerts told talkSPORT.com

“It went cold for a while and I moved on and thought, ‘If it happens, it happens’.

“And then ultimately they decided to stick with me and to roll with me and the fight stayed on and they kept it at the Cowboys Stadium.

“And they kept the co-main [Katie] Taylor vs [Amanda] Serrano and Netflix just went full steam ahead so it’s great it was all able to come together.”

Paul vs Tyson will be broadcast live and free for existing Netflix subscribers.

The streaming giant currently boasts 282.7 million paid subscribers worldwide, with at least a quarter of those expected to tune in for the fight.

Having that many eyeballs on you would be a daunting experience for anyone, let alone a fresh-faced 29-year-old.

But Mommaerts, the youngest announcer in the world, is used to the big stage.

The 6ft 7in entertainer has been the fourth man in the ring for multiple world title fights as the face of Sky Sports boxing promotion BOXXER.

Meanwhile, he also hosted Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson‘s ‘Heaviest Boxing Match in History’.

But none of those experiences will have prepared him for his biggest moment in the spotlight quite like his part in the Hulu biopic ‘Mike’.

“The most ironic thing is, I was actually cast in the Mike Tyson TV show for Hulu a couple of years ago, and I actually did a couple of scenes for that TV show,” he added.

“Unfortunately, my scenes got cut because they changed editors, but I actually was cast as an announcer for Mike Tyson on that TV show.

“The universe works in weird ways. It’s just crazy how that happens, and now I’m actually going to be introducing the real Mike Tyson, not a TV version of him.”

Big Mo joins a star-studded broadcast team for Netflix’s first live sporting event.

Lending their expertise are award-winning presenters Kate Scott, Mauro Ranallo, Rosie Perez, Ariel Helwani, Sean Wheelock, Sibley Scoles, Amir Tyson, Wade Plemons, and Dasha Kuret.

Meanwhile, boxing legends Roy Jones Jr and Andre Ward provide commentary alongside former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
