Cricket Cranes will feel they dropped a point in their clash against Hong Kong after posting a competitive total of 292/9 in their 50 overs.

The heavens opened when the Cricket Cranes needed 4.4 overs to put in the required 20 Overs for a result.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bat. The only change the team made was Brian Masaba in the place of Raghav Dhawan but didn’t make a strong contribution and was followed back in the hut by Shrideep Mangela.

A 50-run partnership between Robinson Obuya (48) and Kenneth Waiswa (30) got the run-scoring back on track, and on the back of a century in the win over Tanzania, Riazat Ali Shah (80) carried on his good form with a well-constructed half-century to lead a rare guard charge from Uganda to finish on 292.

Dinesh Nakrani (29), Alpesh Ramjani (27), and Cosmas Kyewuta (17) had some valuable contributions.

In the run chase, Hong Kong China made sure they stayed with the required rate for the first 10 overs.

However, two great fielding dismissals from the Cricket Cranes accounted for the first two wickets. Ramjani with a great pick and underarm throw to get rid of Anshuman Rath and Kenneth Waiswa held onto a great catch at point to remove the captain Niazakat Khan. Henry Ssenyondo came into the attack and got rid of Zeeshan Ali (37) just before the heavens opened and from thereon the game couldn’t continue.

Uganda was left wondering what might have been if they had tried to push for the 20 overs early on against a resolute Hong Kong China side.

In the end, they played it safe by ensuring that they first took care of the game before taking some risks with the slow bowlers. Unfortunately, there was not enough time for them to get the 20 overs required for the game to be decided on DLS.

Hong Kong China might be the happier of the two sides because chasing down 292 runs is no easy feat while for Uganda after putting on their biggest total of the tournament so far they were unable to get all match points.

Uganda will face Italy in their next game at the Lakeside Oval on Wednesday, another big test for the Ugandans in their bid to finish top in the first round of the Challenge League.
