Uganda and South Africa will have their eyes and ears in Juba on Thursday as South Sudan lock horns with Congo in a Group K Afcon 2025 qualifying match.

The two sides clashing 24 hours before the Cranes – Bafana Bafana clash has a big impact on the Mandela National stadium, Namboole match.

South Sudan are already eliminated and have no chance of reaching the 35th edition of Afcon in Morocco as they have zero points after four rounds of matches but Congo, in 3rd place with four points still have an outside chance.

However, they must beat the Bright Stars in Juba to keep in contention until the final round when they host Uganda next week.

A win for the Red Devils will move them to 7 points, one behind South Africa and three adrift of Cranes with three points to fight for.

Both Uganda and South Africa will seal qualification however if Congo fails to beat South Sudan in Juba which will mean the clash between the two sides on Friday at Namboole is one to fight for who tops the group and for pride.

Equatorial Guinea joins party

Meanwhile, Equatorial Guinea confirmed their place at Afcon 2025 on Wednesday after Libya’s 1-0 win over Togo who are now both eliminated.

Regardless of results posted in the remaining matches including one against Algeria on Thursday, a better head-to-head record against the 3rd placed Liberians means they join the Desert Foxes from Group E.

Eight nations have now sealed qualification including hosts Morocco, Angola and Burkina Faso as well as former champions DR Congo, Algeria, Senegal, Egypt and now Equatorial Guinea.

More nations including Nigeria, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda and South Africa could qualify on Thursday.
