Scotland v Croatia predictions

Scotland head into this final international break of 2024 looking to end an eight match unbeaten record as they bid to avoid relegation from the Nations League’s top tier at the first time of asking, having secured promotion to the top flight in the previous campaign.

Steve Clarke’s side currently sit bottom of Group A1 with just one point to their name from their four matches they’ve played, though they’ve only lost by one goal on each of the occasions, and managed to hold Portugal to a goalless draw in their most recent outing.

Scotland have won just one of their last 16 matches in all competitions dating back to September 2023, and currently sit six three points adrift at the bottom of their Nations League table, staring an automatic relegation in the face.

The Scots will be desperate for a victory in their final home match on Friday night, as they bid to overtake Poland and secure third place, which would result in playing a two-legged relegation play-off against one of the second placed finishers from League B next March.

Croatia make the trip to Glasgow this weekend certain as the second placed side in the group, looking to close the three point gap they have over table toppers Portugal as they bid for a top spot and a seeded place in next year’s quarter finals.

Zlatko Dalic’s side have picked up seven points from their four games so far and have lost just one of their last six matches in all competitions, though that run does include the back end of their disappointing group stage exit at Euro 2024.

The Croats reached the final of this competition in the last edition, losing on penalties to Spain in the final in Rotterdam, and will be hoping to go one step further this time around, and a win in Glasgow on Friday night will guarantee their place in the quarter finals.

Scotland’s 2-1 defeat in Zagreb last month means that each nation has two wins each from their seven matches against each other, with Croatia winning just one of their four previous matches at Hampden Park, though that win did come on their most recent visit in Euro 2020.

Despite their results Scotland have played well in their Nations League campaign so far, though giving up deserved leads and conceding late winners hasn’t aided their points tally, though they did manage to show signs of improvement in their draw with Portugal last time out.

With relegation on the line one might expect the Scots to up their game, while Croatia will also be after victory to give the best chance a seeded spot in the quarter finals, though I believe a draw is the most likely outcome, most probably 1-1, which isn’t really ideal for either side.

Scotland v Croatia betting tips

Scott McTominay has been Scotland’s talisman for the best part of two years now, scoring 10 goals in their last 15 competitive matches, including two of the four Scotland have scored as a team in this Nations League campaign.

The midfielder also bagged his third goal of the season for his new club Napoli on Sunday night at the San Siro away against Inter Milan in a top of the table clash that kept the Neapolitan side top of Serie A.
