The ground has massively affected the field sizes on day one of the Cheltenham November meetings, and only four have been declared for the Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Novices Chase.
But, there are four who all bring a live chance to the table.
Here, I will give you an in-depth preview of the four runners’ chances and the best online horse racing bookmakers where you can place your next winning bet.
Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Novices Chase runner by runner betting guide
Now it’s time to take a in-dept looking into runners of the Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Novices Chase and the best horse racing bookmakers to help you make a winning bet.
1 Springwell Bay
- Age: 7
- Weight: 11st 9lb
- Form: 142U-1
- Rating: 145
- Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr
- Trainer: Jonjo O’Neill & A.J O’Neill
- Odds: 13/8
I was massively impressed with how Springwell Bay got the job down on chase debut at Chepstow.
He warmed to the task as the race went on, eventually winning more comfortably than the winning margin suggested. The third has since gone on to win a Grade 2 novices chase at Wincanton, which gives that piece of form a strong look.
That was Springwell Bay’s first run of the season, and he is entitled to come on for that.
With his encouraging course form (314), he looks like the one they all have to beat, even giving weight away to all his rivals.

2 Hyland
- Age: 7
- Weight: 11st 7lb
- Form: 02-141
- Rating: 144
- Jockey: Nico de Boinville
- Trainer: Nicky Henderson
- Odds: 5/2
A winner over hurdles at last year’s October meeting, Hyland made it back-to-back wins with an impressive start to his chasing career.
He looks to be the pace of the race and will have ground conditions in his favour here.
He is rated much lower over hurdles than Springwell Bay, so he must show he can come forward for his chase debut here.
There is every chance he will get his way up front, and if so, he could put up a bold bid from the front.
Impressive on chase debut
Has his ideal ground
Trainers form is questionable

4 Resplendent Grey
- Age: 6
- Weight: 11st 4lb
- Form: 342-11
- Rating: 138
- Jockey: Sean Bowen
- Trainer: Olly Murphy
- Odds: 4/1
Resplendent Grey is another who has made a perfect start to his chasing career. He won easily at Uttoxeter in October, jumping well and putting the race to bed after the last.
He was sent off as a 10/3 second favourite for a handicap hurdle at this meeting last year but could only manage seventh behind the winner, Springwell Bay.
He has it all to do with Springwell Bay, but in this small field, he should at least close the gap now over fences.

3 Buddy One
- Age: 7
- Weight: 11st 4lb
- Form: 42-413
- Rating: 154
- Jockey: Jack Gilligan
- Trainer: Paul John Gilligan
- Odds: 5/1
Buddy One showed some classy form over hurdles last season that saw him win a handicap on this card last season and then go on to finish fourth in the Grade 1 Stayers Hurdle, second in the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle, and fourth once again behind Teahupoo.
He made an excellent start to his chase career with a seven-length win at Galway but took a backwards step at Wexford behind Heart Wood and Corbetts Cross.
But, he won’t meet anything of that calibre here, and all be it that he is the outsider of the four, he has by far the best hurdle form.
If the return to Cheltenham sparks him back up and he tightens up in the jumping department, he can be a massive danger to all.
A Grade 1 performer over hurdles
Impressed on chase debut
Needs to bounce back from a poor run last time

Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Novices Chase Verdict
There is no way you can rule out any of the four runners with any confidence, but it may be worth sticking with SPRINGWELL BAY, who, after his chase debut win, looks sure to go on to better things over fences.
If Buddy One can leave his last run behind and produce his form over hurdles from last season, then he has enough ability to take care of this field.
