New York Islanders at Vancouver Canucks preview
Tuesday night Patrick Roy’s men battled back from two goals down in the third period, but couldn’t overcome the Oilers’ high-end skill. The Islanders lost 4-3 in overtime, as it was the third occurrence in their last four games the Isles went into the extra frame.
Rick Tocchet got his troops to rebound nicely after getting throttled over the weekend. The Canucks managed to secure their second win in seven home affairs this season, defeating a fatigued Calgary Flames squad on Tuesday winning 3-1.

New York Islanders at Vancouver Canucks predictions
Since joining the Islanders in 2020, Ilya Sorokin has been a brick wall in the crease giving his side a shot at a win on most nights. On Tuesday the netminder stopped 38 of 42 shots he faced against the Oilers. Through 10 starts, Sorokin has a 2.66 GAA and a .915 save percentage.
Anders Lee registered his first multi-goal performance of the year Tuesday evening. Throughout his 16 appearances this season, the veteran Left Winger has cataloged six goals and five assists. Lee has played all 775 career regular season games in an Islanders sweater, amassing 464 career points.
After a sluggish opening 12 games, Canucks brass and fans are hoping Elias Pettersson has turned things around. The Swedish centre has collected four points in his last two outings including a goal and an assist versus the Flames on Tuesday. The 26-year-old has 421 regular season points in as many career NHL games.
Captain Quinn Hughes continues to rack up the points as he is currently riding a five-game point streak amassing eight within this stretch. The defenseman leads his team in the points department with 16, which is the fourth highest amount by any blueliner in the NHL.
Unexpectedly, between the pipes Kevin Lankinen has taken the reins away from touted goalie prospect Artūrs Šilovs after Thatcher Demko’s injury in last year’s postseason. Starting 11 games in the blue paint, Lankinen is posting a .911 save percentage while averaging 2.46 GAA.
New York Islanders at Vancouver Canucks tips
Both teams rolling into Thursday’s tilt seem to be trending upwards, as visitors have previously struggled to get the puck past the goalie, and have now scored three or more goals in their last four contests.
The Canucks suffered a glitch on Saturday giving up seven to Edmonton, but overall in their last 10, Vancouver has hoarded up seven wins.
These two sides don’t meet often as they play in opposite conferences, but when they clash against each other they light the lamp. In the last 10 meetings, this matchup has gone over nine times including eight straight.
The goalies haven’t been confirmed but we could see both backups getting the nod as the pair of starters have yet to get a night off in a while. The combined save percentage between the two backups is .848.
Even if one or both starters get the call, this could be a lofty scoring skirmish as four of the last six road games for the Isles have gone over the number.
