2024 NCBA Junior Golf Series conclude at Uganda Golf Club

The 2024 NCBA Junior Golf Series successfully climaxed on Sunday, 17th November at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.

This event highlights NCBA’s commitment to nurturing young talent and developing golf among Uganda’s younger generation.

The NCBA Junior Golf Series offers a unique platform for young golfers to sharpen their athletic abilities while acquiring essential life skills, such as social interaction, resilience, and physical fitness.

This year’s series, tailored for junior golfers aged 5 to 18, featured multi-day tournaments and skill-enhancing camps at various golf clubs and courses in Uganda, namely; Lake Victoria Serena Golf Club, Entebbe Club, Uganda Golf Club, Palm Valley Golf & Country Club, Lugazi Hills and Country Club in Lugazi and Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club, Namulonge.

Over 100 junior golfers from Uganda and beyond participated, competing in a format modeled after the prestigious US Kids Golf World Championship.

Top performers:

Boys 6 & Under:

Humuza Buka scored 45 points to win the 6 and under cluster for the boys. Tayebwa Rubandamayonza was second with 45 points as Aahil Bagalana finished third with 49 points.

Boys 7:

In the boys 7 years category; Aleksander Sequeira scored 50 points to topple the group. Muzahura Jathan Musiime came second with 58 points and Rajveer Keshvala was third with 63 points.

Boys 8:

Godse Mahendra Varad was winner in the boys 8 group with 50 points, Austin Abraham Abaho came second with 52 points and Hayden Smith Archie was third with 61 points.

Boys in the 9 age category show off their medals at the NCBS junior golf series

Boys 9:

Emmanuel Wol Mayen toppled the rest in the 9 years catergory with 52 points. Jeremy Kirabo Nsereko came second on 59 points and Asher Smagacz scored 64 points for third place,

Boys 10:

Luca Kimara (46 points) led the rest in the boys 10 years’ pool. Others who followed suit were Ethan Namara (58), Nigel Yoash Ssemambo (64) and Jethroe Mugisha Muzahura (71).

Girls 8 and under:

In the girls 8 and under pool; Elizabeth Mwagale was best with 43 points. In second place was Mirembe Katende (52 points). Smith Bonnie Hayden came third with 55 points, Dama Lamiah Jingo (64) and Siima Janda (73).

The exceling junior golfers got medals and plaques.

The event also provided a pathway for participants to qualify for renowned international tournaments, including the Rome Classic in Italy and the Big 5 Championship in South Africa, enhancing their junior world rankings.

NCBA’s deep involvement in the series reflects the bank’s belief in empowering young individuals to reach their full potential, both on and off the golf course.

Beyond cultivating sportsmanship, the NCBA Junior Golf Series serves as a platform for instilling core values such as integrity, discipline, and self-esteem. It highlights NCBA’s dedication to promoting diversity in sports while inspiring a generation of young athletes to remain focused, engaged, and positively mentored.

The excitement of this year’s Junior Series peaked at the renowned 18-hole Uganda Golf Club Course, celebrated for its heritage and challenging layout.

The event brought together Ugandan and international junior golfers, delivering a perfect mix of competition, camaraderie, and community engagement.

Theo Van Rooyen, US Kids Golf Director in Uganda, commended the series’ growing prominence, stating: “The NCBA Junior Golf Series has become a significant fixture on Uganda’s sporting calendar. It not only promotes a love of golf but also fosters connections within the business community, creating a unique platform for young golfers to connect, grow, and pursue excellence.”

He said hosting these qualifiers at the Uganda Golf Club inspires inspire greatness among the junior golfers, and creates a powerful platform for young golfers to connect, grow, and pursue excellence.
